Don't let anyone tell you to do a ton of reps with light weights. It's a load of crap.
You won't get big bulky muscles. Women don't have the testosterone to build big muscles the way men do. Yes there are female bodybuilders, but you would have to really be trying to look like them, and even then it's hard.
You need to choose a weight that you can just barely do 8-12 reps with. Building muscle does help speed up your metabolism and burn more calories, but your muscles are not going to get stronger if you are lifting a measley two pounds.

Lifting light weights is a great idea. Anarobic exercises require relatively less effort and are just as effective (sometimes even more effective) than aerobic exercises. That's because your body needs about 180 calories per hour to sustain 1 pound of active muscle. Active muscle refering to those that are exercised regularly. This will definately accelerate your weight loss process. Another benefit of weight training is that you will obtain a firmer body. If you have to lose that much weight (also depending on your age) your body might become a bit flacid. The muscle training will add much more firmness than walking or running alone can add.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

If you're a girl nothing is really going to bulk you up, especially when you're not extremely serious about the sport.
Just because your a woman doesn't mean you need to use low weights, progressively get heavier just like him or you will plateau.
You're husband has it backwards, if you use low weights that are not hard to use will not speed up your metabolism, if you are engaging in hard activity it will speed up your metabolism.
Don't listen to 99.9% of the people in this world about health, they know absolutely nothing. That includes your friends and husband. This also includes Se-Ke because there is no such thing as toning muscles, it is just a matter of losing bodyfat and water weight between organs and muscle tissue.

strength training is good for losing fat. you won't bulk up because you don't have enough male hormone for big muscles. start with low weight and fewer repetitions, but as the weight gets easy, add more weight. I worked out 4 times a week with gradually higher weights and never got muscular looking.

You need to do LOTS and LOTS of Cardio!!!
I recently had some sessions with a personal trainer at my local gym. And he advised me to switch my cardio routine often, to 'shock' my body and get the most results.
Treadmill: total of 30 minuets walk for 1.30 minuets than run for 2.30 minuets and complete the 30 minuets going back and forth from running to walking. (I walk at 4.2 and run at 7.0)
Elliptical: Total of 40 minuets. program the machine under the 'cross trainer' do not hold onto the hand rail but keep your arms moving as you pump your legs and of course don’t forget to adjust the resistance.
Stair master: Total of 40 minuets program the machine under 'fat burner' and try to complete the 45 minuets on level 5 or 6
Bicycle: Total of 40 minuets. Program the machine under ‘personal trainer’ add the resistance and the program will ask you to fluctuate your RPM from 60-100
In all of these different cardio routines I leave the gym drenched in sweat.

no low weights wont bulk you up but they wont really help either...you want to put some strain on your body therefore lifting heavy enough a weight such that you're struggling a bit on your two final reps

Well, for sure, the running and walking WILL bulk you up, but only in the leg area.
It`ll make your leg muscles become developed.

the diet and only the diet decides how big the muscles will get. the load that is placed on a muscle has no real effect on this.
