My kitten has been acting sick for a little while, we tried everything, end eventually took her to the vet yesterday, they said she has eaten something she shouldnt had, and she was becoming dehydrated bc of it. so they said theyd keep her until 6 ish on ivs. well they called then and said they would reccomend keeping her on it all night. i didnt want to leave her bc there is no person there from 6 until they opened this morning. but everyone told me i had to to make her better. we were supposed to hear today if she needed surgery to get what was in her out. well, they called this morning and she died last night. she had a seizure. how did she have a seizure? was it bc of the iv's? was it bc of what was in her stomache. if i would have not left her over night, would this have happened? please help, anyone who knows anything about this kind of thing.

Hi, I am so sad to read about your kitten. Its really painful to loose a family-member. About the iv and the death I am rather sure there where not much you could have done. A kitten (same as human babies & other small things)are just cuz of their size extra susceptible to dehydration. Once that have happened are the limits what is enough very small. If You kitten was dehydrated the vet had to give iv even before he/she started a surgery. Otherwise would your kitten never stood a chance anyway.
They bacteria your kitten accidently indigasted was in them self not likly to have been the reason for its death-but in combination with dehydration where the trauma to big for your sweet friend.

Again- I am really sorry, but bare in mind your kitten is now sitting in the lap of an angel until the day you reunite again.

//Take care, Annie

awww sweety I am sorry. Your kitty must have been pretty sick and no one caught it in time. I think it may have been more than what she swallowed. If she had a seizure there isn't much you can do. I would however, get a written explanation from the vet on what happened. I would call them and tell them you need a better explanation or go to there office and let them know you are not pleased. They should be responsible for what happened

I am so sorry the kitten had to die. It is such a shame to lose the little ones whom we hope have a great future ahead of them.

It does sound like it was some kind of poison and being overnight at the vet's without medical intervention would not have helped the little one. IV's would not have harmed the kitten - it is a common therapy and does no harm.

I am sorry for your loss.

I'm always wary of leaving my pet overnight when no one is there. I am so sorry to hear she died. But its not likely from the IV. If they were giving her fluids and not medication, I don't know what she could have a reaction to. Ask them what medication they gave her, and how they know it was a seizure. Then call another vet and ask their opinion. Could be nothing, could be something. Good luck, and again, I'm sorry. :(

I had a cat that just randomly had a seizure and died. I am sorry. It really sucks. I do not think the IVs had anything to do with it though. It was either poisoning or some condition she already had.

leaving her over at the vets office was the best chance she had. the iv's were use to help her get fluilds, she must have been dehydrated, when cats have seizures this mean somthing was toxic and had started to effect her brain. this could be from somthing she ate or becaus she had become so dehyrated that it caused her kidneys to shut down and causing her to produce toxins with in the brain. you done what you could, sometimes things dont work out the way we want them to do no matter what we do.

Its kinda hard to say without knowing what she ingested.But I had a small dog and he got out and someone poisoned him and he acted the same way.I did the same thing you did.I left him at the vets office over night, but the poison had already entered his blood stream so it was too late. Im sorry she didnt make it, I know it hurts to lose a pet.

Sorry about your kitten, even if u would have taken here home she may still have passed away, if she was that sick and dehydrated. She was probably in the best place for her condition, and if she was dehydrate at least the iv's were giving her some fluid. I would have left my kitten there just as you did. Sorry again for your loss.

I'm so sorry that your kitty passed away. She could've had a seizure due to the amount of truama she went through. I'm not sure if having her home with you could've stopped anything. Again, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
