I'm an Americian and until recently I was a republican like Bush. There are a number of reasons why I think we should be in Iraq, its the 21st century and there is no reason why the world should allow a regime like the previous Iraqi regime to stand. That being said, Bush never once used that in a single speach he has given. He screwed up bigtime in Iraq and i am assuming Iran wont be much different. Iran has posed 10 times more of a threat to the middle east and America for the past 10 years but we have not done anything about it. We probably should have let the U.N decide the fate of Iraq and not have been so "gung-ho" about it. As it is right now we "suspect Iran has nukes", we the whole world "KNOWS" N Korea has nukes and their leader is a sick twisted person who I would bet will try to use his new weapons to reclaim S korea if not Japan and other smaller countries. If we should have attacked anyone it should have been N Korea not Iraq. Yes Saddam was a sick bastard but ya know what, about 220 some-odd years ago a county was being oppressed by a warmongering money hungry government. So a bunch of farmers grabed their rifles and (with much help from the French) beat the holy hell out of the largest standing military in the world. If we ( the U.S) could have ousted the English then if the Iraqi people really wanted a different ruler, then they should have risen up against him ( with outside help from the U.N not only the U.S). So to answer your question i think that what america wanted was an American controlled country to base its anti-terrorism campain in the middle east. Iraq is a centraly located country with a butt-load of oil so what better a place?.The problem is not in the middle east, it is in Asia. We (the U.S) need to take a step back and realize that two of the three biggest allies e have ( France and Germany) are sick of our crap and we need to focus on the REAL threats. N Korea is a threat, China is more of a potential threat than any country in the middle east. Yes, the cold war is over but what was NATO's goal in the cold war? STOP THE SPREAD OF COMMUNISM!!!!!! Well everyone says we won well sorry to piis ya off but we LOST!!! The 2 powerhouses in Asia are communist one of them a really creepy radical communist that would like nothing better but to watch europe and america burn to the ground. China is a weird type of communist , they are almost a democracy but not quite there yet, but still every year or two we hear of them threating to attack Taiwan. So I say let us get away from the middle east and focus where the problems are. Let us take care of the countries that actualy pose a threat to the world instead of ones we think are dangerous. Israel can kick the crap out of everyone in the middle east so let them deal with their own region.

There are some positive things happening in Iraq also since we've been there that we never hear about. Below are a few interesting things happening there.
Did you know???
I didn't know!
How could we?
Did you know that 47 countries' have reestablished their embassies in Iraq?
Did you know that the Iraqi government currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi
people?
Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated,
364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 new schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been completed in Iraq?
Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers,
all currently operating?
Did you know that 25 Iraq students departed for the United States in
January 2005 for the re-established Fulbright program?
Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational?
They have 5 - 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry
regiment.
Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft
(under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers?
Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion?
Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000
fully trained and equipped police officers?
Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq
that produce over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks?
Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq?
They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations,
22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities.
Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5
have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?
Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school
by mid October?
Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq
and phone use has gone up 158%?
Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio
stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?
Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004?
OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!
WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW?
OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!
Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two
purposes:
It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States
thus minimizing consequent support, and
It is intended to discourage American citizens.
---- Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site.

If I can speak for America, we want Iraq to become a democracy.
Like America, Iraq is not homogeneous and is made up different people. A democracy is one way that different people can unite to form one government, with a structure in place that fosters the respect of all the people and beliefs within that country. The other way to keep a country together, although not uniting the people, is for one faction of the populace to repress the others. A country that respects different beliefs among its own people is more likely to respect another country, less likely to assist terrorists in attacking another country because they do not strictly follow their religion. A democracy allows religious freedom.
Personally, I disagree with the United States leaders that democracy is suitable for all countries and cultures. Some people seem perfectly happy to have less personal freedom, even demanding it. This seems to work for some communist countries without state sponsored religion, and where the people are the same ethnic makeup. I would not want to be a minority in those countries.
Currently, Iraqis are on the process of separating. As religion seems most important to Iraqis, maybe Iraq should seperate along religous and ethnic lines. Possibly Kurds will join Turkey for protection, as they occupy oil producing lands. Shites could band with Iran. Does the Sunni portion of Iraq share a boundary with another Sunni nation? Possibly Kuwait will take them in.
You would think if a majority of people were oppressed by a government, they could enact change themselves without outside help. If this were the case, how was Saddam, a minority Sunni leader, able to successfully repress the Shite majority in Iraq for so long? How is one school yard bully able to take lunch money from 10 different children each day?

In a jungle? I don't understand that reference. Americans Do Not Want the War. The majority of us have completely lost confidence in the president, and in our ability to stabilize Iraq. I do not want war with Iran, and I don't think most Americans do either. We have no good reason to go war with Iran, except for their developing nukes, and if they are, they we should Definitely not start a war.

Well, most people in the middle east are animals.
Sorry, thats my opinion, i met a few nice people there, but a majority are nice to you to your face, but go home and lob mortars at you after their dinner, than they come back and see where it hit and smile all the time.
I don't want to back to Iraq or to Iran, i'd prefer if they just learned that it is not the middle ages any longer, its time to catch up.

Here is what the American Government wants:
1)Destabilize the Middle East,so that it can have a complete control over the Middle-East oil. (notice what George Bush said in his state of the union address)
"it is important for us to stop depending too heavily on foreign (Middle Eastern) oil."
Well of course when half of the Middle-East would be occupied by America and it's allies and the other half would be facilitating American troops by giving them their territory to form illegal military bases, then of course the "foreign" middle-eastern oil can not be called "foreign" because the Middle-East has already been colonized by USA.
2)Over shadow the Palestinian issue by creating different other conflicts throughout the Muslim world so that the attention of Muslims towards the Israeli aggression is diverted.
AND
3)Dividing the Muslims by creating local conflicts such as the one between the shias and the Sunnis so that Muslims are drived towards a civil war which can easily torn them apart.

Visit a website that lists the current global conflicts and you'll find that the US is not the only country killing people. In fact, we're not killing as many people as you think we are. Some fact consumption might make you take a broader look at the world as a whole.

I'm thinking that Americans know what they want--and that is to get the hell out of Iraq. You can see how the Republican's are trying to delay an overall debate on the issue--just too many of them tied to Corporate interests to get the job done. I'm not overjoyed with the Dems efforts either, but at least they are pressing the issue as hard as their consciousness will let them. Watching Bush and his cohorts dig themselves an even deeper hole is fun to observe, but I feel the same frustration you do when it comes to real action.
