I am a speech pathology student and have been asked this ? in class and have to make a case as to why the SLP should continue the MBS despite the observed signs noted; whereas the radiologist wants to stop the study secondary to observed transient penetration, occasional aspiration & pyriform residual on all consistencies.

Hopefully I understand the question.

The only reasons I see to continue the study after observing transient penetration, aspiration and residue on ALL consistencies would be to attempt " strategies" to improve dysphagia symptoms. Remember what an MBSS is for...to diagnosis dysphagia and to assess compensatory strategies. Good Luck.

Maybe because the speech pathologist wants to finish the exam to figure out why the pt is aspiration(or whatever the reason for having a MBS) to begin with. It is always like that, even the radiologist wonders.
