My female finch keep laying her eggs in the food dish despite that there are nest in her aviary. I have moved the eggs from the food dish to the nest, but she won't go in the nest. I don't know if I should move it back to the food dish or keep moving the eggs she lay in the food dish to the nest and hope that she will eventually find the eggs in the nest and go in. This is not her first clutch of eggs. This is her second clutch. On the first cluch she was laying her eggs inside the nest so I am not sure why she is not doing the same with this clutch of eggs. I have removed her previous nest from her first clutch and put in a new nest. Any suggestions on what to do.

just change places between nest and food dish:)
but better to use external food box which has only a small gate, suitable for finch's head!

Was the previous nest different at all from the new one?? That might be the problem. Birds are creatures of habit and don't like things changed around too much. My finches lay eggs on the floor of the cage (I don't provide a nest because I don't want babies!!) If your new nest is different, try to find one as similar to the old one as possible. It might be that the feed dish just appeals to her more.

You did not mention if you also have amale. The male and female finches work together to set up home by preparing the nest. You n3eed nesting material so they can set up the nest. The female will lay eggs wherever she feels comfortable and safe.

I just want to let know what you problem my be. Do you move the cage from one location to another. IF you are doing this the female would laid her eggs everywhere an not in the nest. So don't move the cage from one place to another, just put it in one location where you don't move the cage. Birds would not breed if you are moving thier cage to different locatiosn they just wont.
