It hasnt been discontinued, there are still 5 types being made, no you dont load in total darkness, you can buy it from kodak, in lots of 5's or off of ebay, in ones and 5's and tens, i just bought one the other day, and am 40 feet through it,so the ebay auctions arent scams.

try Ektachrome 64t, or tri-x, although the 500t looks best however its a negative film. the guy above is wrong, you dont need a filter, this is built into the camera, go to the kodak.com site go to cinematography page, choose the products link, choose super8mm and have a look.

I was surprised to discover that it HAS NOT been discontinued - a source here http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=100976&r=A
is advertising Super 8 Ektachrome - but tungsten balanced, so you would need a filter to film outdoors with it. The page is very helpful and there is even a link to two labs that will process it. No, there is no need whatsoever to load in darkness - Super 8 comes in cassettes. it was introduced by Kodak to make home movie making easy, with out the need to turn the roll midway through as you did with Standard 8. Some even came ready striped with magnetic tape for sound!
