I have had little or no voice for almost 2 months. I have had a scope put through my nose into my throat, the doctors say that my vocal cords are swollen slightly. He has given me pepcid and FLonase for treatment.....this is not working.

Now, my ears hurt...not like an infection but rather the outer opening is swollen and ears hurt to touch as well as around the ears.

Today, I found a lump about the size of a quarter behind my ear on my neck just at the base of my skull. It is hard and does not seem to move and is a bit sore, but only when touched.

Any ideas anyone?? I am getting a bit worried, but don't want to keep goin to the doctor (he may think I am nuts)!

I am not seeing an ENT doctor, my family doctor has to refer me and he says that they will treat me with pepcid initially....I know I do not have heartburn, but how can I convise the doctor of this. Flonase is a wasted treatment also...I don't get it!!

I have voiced my concerns...I have a lot of cancer in the family! I am scared to death, I think at times I make myself even sicker worrying about it!

Heather ... Yes, it sounds like a problem with your glands, but you're not likely to find any doctors hanging around Yahoo Answers. Please see another doctor who might be able to help more. It sounds like you've been suffering for too long. Good luck and we hope you're better soon.

I have a bump behind/under my ear also. It's not like rock hard, but it's definetly not squishy. There are several different things it could be, and you should go to the doctors to see what it is. It could be a swollen lymph node, a cyst, lipoma, or possibly cancer. Just get it checked out, never hide from anything you're unsure of, go get it checked out because the dr. will always help no matter what it is. Remember, better safe than sorry. I'm going to get my lumpy thing checked out tomorrow. I'm guessing that it's related to the cold i just had recently..and still kind of have. The only reason why I'm thinking it's not a swollen lymph node is because it is not painful, or sore at all. Hopefully it's nothing big and will go away on it's own or can be easily removed. I'm worried too lol. Just do something to get your mind off it after you schedule yourself a doctors appointment.

Heather,

You need a new doctor because this one is not giving you the answers and the treatment you need. Pepcid and Flonase - who is this schmuck?

Are you going to an ENT (Ear Nose Throat specialist)? If not, make an appointment with one immediately and tell them it's an emergency.

As for the lump, it could be anything, including a swollen lymph node - but no one is going to be able to say for certain over the internet. Go to the doctor, but preferably a different one.

Good luck and get well soon!

Sounds like swollen glands to me.

Pepcid is for acid reflux - all it does is cut down your stomache acid. It won't do anything for inflamation.

You need to let the doctor know that you are having new symptoms.

Do you have a lot of sinus drainage down the back of your throat?

Have the swollen glands checked out. It might be as simple as getting your tonsils out.

Totally non-serious answer to give you a laugh: "You've been tagged by aliens who are following your every move. Block the signal by staying in the bathroom with a cookie sheet over your head."

Seriously, go to an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Just a swollen lymph node, I get them all the time. I will subside in 2 weeks or so, just try and stay healthy. Take your vitamins, exercise and drink more water.

Go back to the doctor. If he thinks you are nuts, ask for a second opinion.

It could a brain tumor, but being a kid and not a doctor, my opinion is of little importance.
