Put them in a deep bowl of water, or saucepan- if they float or one end points towards the surface they have gone bad (its due to gas collecting at one end of the egg). if the sit on their side at the bottom they are fine. But to be honest, they're bound to be bad by now!

No, the best before date is contingent on refrigeration. If you will notice, you pick the eggs out of a refrigerated case at the supermarket. And on the package it does state to "keep contents refrigerated". Even some of the old fridges were made with egg indentations on their doors for storing eggs (under refrigeration). You can test your eggs by immersing them in water. The older an egg is, the larger the "air bubble" is. So if your immersed egg is trying to rise to the surface, then the eggs are getting old. If it settles to the bottom, the egg is still fresh. Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia: The larger end of the egg contains the air cell that forms when the contents of the egg cool and contract after it is laid. Chicken eggs are graded according to the size of this air cell, measured during candling. A very fresh egg has a small air cell and receives a grade of AA. As the size of the air cell increases, and the quality of the egg decreases, the grade moves from AA to A to B.

These eggs are fine. Eggs last a very long time. In Italy where they eat very few eggs they store eggs for up to a year. The eggs we raise on our farm don't hang around that long but they will keep for literally months and as stated the best measure is it's smell.

Usually the 'real' throw away date is 4 to 5 weeks after the date posted on the package. You have probably exceeded the limit, but if you crack them open and they look bad or smell bad, or even put them uncracked in some water to see if they float, those all are indications that the eggs are clearly bad. But to be safe, again, the rule is 4-5 weeks after the posted date. There ya go!

the only way to tell is by cracking them open, if they don't smell they're OK. eggs are also best kept out of the fridge they arn't dairy produce and don't need to be kept cold.

if an egg is kept at the same temp at all times, it can last 8 weeks. this is straight from an egg farmers mouth. So no don't risk it.

They will have a date stamped on them and you shouldn't keep eggs in fridge by the way........

They will still be fine...Make sure that they are not cracked before using. I keep eggs for ages and I'm still alive.

Give one to your Gran to eat, if she dies in the next couple of days you probably should not touch them!!

Don't believe anyone that writes about eggs floating, it's bollx, the gran thing is a winner though!

you'll know it if they're not. They'll give off a terrible sulfer smell if they're bad.

Eggs are a buck to $3 if you get the cage-free, hormone free, etc, etc. So if you're really worried, run out and get new ones.
