Duration of sleep depends on many factors and no certain lines can be drawn the factors affecting are:-
1. Age (younger the age more the sleep)
2. Sex (males need more)
3. Physical stress (more work more sleep)
4. Mental Stress (more stres more sleep)
5. Disease presence (reduces the sleep)

you can decide accordingly.
In general daily continuous of 7-8 hours is sufficient.

Children 8 to 10 hours. Grown ups 6 to 8 hours. Older people sleep less.

I know for sure that it's not important the amount of hours but rather the quality of sleeping.Indeed a person can sleep 10 hours and wake up more tired than someone else who slept 6 hours of deep sleeping.

Primarily the amount of sleep you require depeds on your age. As you grow older you need less number of hours. While you are young and growing you need 8 hours of sleep. Children need more than 10 hours. Older people need 5 hours of sleep.

There is no fixed duration for sleep. In ayurveda it depends on age, sex, mode of activities, climate, food etc. When you are ababy or become old, you need more sleep. Female need more sleep than male. If you are hard working manual labour, you need more sleep. In cold/ winter season, more sleep inrequired. In no circumstances, day sleep should not be practised. So generally speaking , you need 6- 8 hrs of sleep. Sleep in corredt time.
