I live in DC. You'll have plenty of attractions to visit (monuments, museums, malls, and just about anything else), and it is a pretty nice city in general. Try to come at the beginning of spring--the city is at its finest when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
I wouldn't recommend driving if you are from out of town--the streets are set up based on a theory from around 1800 that there should be streets you could shoot a cannon down to force an invading army to face artillery fire--so the biggest streets cut across the city, so most of the time you don't head north or south, there are a ton of traffic circles, one-way streets, and lanes that change direction by the time of day. Also, parking is hard to find and expensive, and the parking laws are weird and not always clear. I'd strongly recommend using the metro or taking a taxi while you are here. The subway is clean and worth riding--it may be nicer than the one in your town.

Yup, several times. Nice city. Has its bad parts of town just like any other major city, but the standard touristy areas are very nice and the Metro is definitely the best way to get around.

yeah all the time, my dad works in the Watergate Hotel, he is one of the chefs in the hotel. i live in Virginia, and at night i go to parties there. but if you are thinking of going there, be careful to go to street 14 there are hookers, pimps, thief. , but the monuments, are gorgeous, plus the museums are free.
and when i'm hungry i just go to the Watergate Hotel and i eat for free, ummm, good 5 star food.
