My great room has white kitchen cabinets on two walls, but I have dark granite countertops. I would like to paint the walls behind the cabinets a green color that is in the countertop, but want the walls in the living room area to be a lighter creamy butter shade that is also in the granite top, as I dont want the entire room to be in the dark color. Is this too much contrast?

As long as the green isn't too dark it won't be.

My suggestion would be to have just one wall a darker color to be your accent wall. I probably would not use a wall that had a lot of cabinets on it for the accent wall because it might look a little dark under the cabinets. In addition, it wouldn't stand out as much as if it were a different wall that you could hang pictures on, etc.

That is kind of an 80's way of painting.

Instead, paint yoru walls a darker color, and your ceiling the lighter color (2 shades lighter on the same color chip is agood rule of thumb).

And if you've never painted cabinets before.... keep them neutral. They are the worst thing to paint, ever!

I painted mine that way - mine doesn't include the kitchen, but includes the dining room and goes into the hallway. My colors were 2 shades of beige, and it looks so nice. You can't tell until the light hits the corner just right, but it really adds a lot of debth to the room. I get lots of compliments on it.

I can't see the links but I can tell you that pretty much all shades of gray go with almost every other color scheme. You've definitely got the right ide, using the artwork as inspiration and designing the rest of the room around them. Your maple furniture will look great with gray.

It sounds wonderful!! Go for it..if perhaps it is a mistake, then it is nor harm, nor foul as you can repaint
