Yes, most definitely.... but that "gradually" could mean decades and centuries or even millenia ;)! But, yes, our kindness can change the world for the better and produce more good people.
But that doesn't mean that if your enemy attacks you, you just let them end your life or something. There's always a kind way to respond. And we have to know to WHOM we should be kind... and when and how; some people are just ... not ... gonna appreciate your kindness.

The only way this helps is to heal ourselves.
And no, I don't think we're supposed to treat them nicely.
I don't have the background to adequately translate the written text, though my BF might.
I think if we are to love our enemies, we can do that from afar.
I think we can try to have compassion, which is a part of love, and find the reasons that some would say are excuses.
They become excuses if we permit people to continue to abuse us.
But it makes us ourselves better people if we can attribute some things to illness or circumstance, etc, because we bear less ill-will in life, towards our enemies, and toward human nature, and toward all the people we meet after barring the abuser from our own worlds.
We strengthen our own selves by showing mercy and compassion.
Not by playing the fool, mind you, but by loving our enemies in this way.

There is some people that are in league with true evilness and live to hurt, and bring fear, and even death to others.Would you treat Hitler with loving kindness, or the terriost of today and expect the world to be a better place??There are mass murders, baby killers, rapist, drug traffickers, and the like that are now imprisoned, would you like to lovingly set them free?? If one of these people were to do to your family what they've done to society in general would you be so quick to show them kindness??

Vengeance is mine, I will repay saith the Lord. We are to pray for our enemies. The world would say get back at them but that is not what God says. The Word of God says that what we sew, we will reap. If we sew lovingkindness that is what we will reap. It goes out into the world and reaps other lovingkindnesses(if such a word). With love and kindness have I drawn them. We are to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. So yes, if we sew good we will reap good. God says that we are to show others love and kindness. Somehow when we do, it seems to create a domino effect. It does trickle down. If we do what God says do, He will do the rest. May God bless U.

Whether or not that happens, the fact remains that we should respond with loving kindness, nonetheless. That would be a great offshoot, and a profitable course in many lives. At the very least it would be a source of reflection for those not desirous to reciprocate.

EDIT:

I'm not talking about POLITICAL terrorists! They need to be dealt with swiftly. Hitler, if nothing else, should have taught us that much.

"make" more good people? You can't "make" people do or be anything.

But...consider this:
Somebody does something you don't like. You have two options -- talk to them about why they did what they did and try to resolve the conflict, or shoot them because you're angry.

Which action do you think has a better chance of a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and which has a better chance of making that person's friends and relatives hate you enough to want to kill YOU?

It's pretty simple, really...
:)

Woodson ... No, we've tried that already. It never works. That would only tempt dictators to take even more. There are examples of this everywhere in history. It sounds great in theory, but it never has worked.

Of course not, it is human nature to be cruel and unkind. There are people who are infinitely kind hearted, but the majority are selfish and could care less.

NOPE! NADA! You treat your enemy with kindness and he will slap the other cheek. Than your loving kindness was all for naught!

Nope, if we let them know that being our enemy was a mistake they might however learn.
