Smoking generally starts with the need to feel and look cool. Then it turns into an addicting, nasty, filthy habit that is almost impossible for someone with weak will power to get rid of.
And, let the record show that I am not a drug user, have never been a drug user and it seems as though someone's head is stuck on using drugs, so with that being said, I stand by my statement. Oh, and let's not forget that I work with kids everyday about their peer pressure issues and I always hear that these kids started from peer pressure. They don't want to look "uncool" to their friends,so they start smoking. Then once they start getting addicted realize it then helps them relax and deal with stress better not realizing they are actually adding to their stress with the addiction.
I am the one that is telling them, If you don't smoke, don't start. And if you started, quit before it becomes an addiction. I want kids to learn from MY mistake.

Forget all that cool stuff. Most people nowdays don't smoke to be cool - that was the 80's. A lot of drug users smoke for habit, since if they smoked pot everytime they needed to smoke it would cost a crapload of money. So they buy cigs to make sure they don't smoke a ton of pot per day. Other people start smokin when they are under a lot of stress, or feel really depressed. The feeling from the nicotine relaxes them and helps them feel better. However, after a few times, they become hooked, and once your hooked, it sucks @ss to stop.
I guess there is the occasional loser stuck in the 80's who thinks its cool to smoke, but its not the majority of people. Everyone I know smokes for one of those two reasons.

people smoke for more reasons than you can count,. some smoke and dont even know what they are doing, if it really bothers you that he wants to kiss you after smoking tell him so. if he really cares about you he will either stop or at least use a mint before he kisses you,

I can tell you why they smoke after they've started: they're addicted!!!
Why they start in the first place is beyond me. I smoked one cigarette in my life. All I could think was "this is gross and smelly" and it's on fire.
It's bad for your health. He needs to stop.

its an addiction and not an easy one to give up. Let him know how you feel and maybe he will want to quit, but he will need lots of support!
