The little *^**ers are becoming resistant to the usual treatments. The best solution seems to be to use a fine tooth comb. It's important to get the timing right - you need to get rid of the ones that are already there, and then get the newly hatched ones before they start laying. Your GP's surgery or the local chemist should have the details.

Comb with nit comb or brush vigorously first thing in the morning and last at night.
If you know there is a current infestation at school, add 2 drops of any of the following to rinse water (suitable children) rosemary, geranium, lavender, eucalyptus, or lemon essential oils. Don't use every time you wash their hair, or they won't be so effective. Neem oil is good at repelling infestation. Tea tree shampoo is also good.
If you are sure the little beggars have set up home, make a synergistic blend of 27 drops each of lavender, rosemary and geranium. Melt 25g beeswax and 50mls castor oil in a dish over boiling water. Allow to cool and add the essential oils. The lotion can be rubbed into the scalp and left overnight
If the poor kid has scratched their skin raw, add 30 drops lavender to 30 mls almond oil, rub into the scalp overnight. Or you could use the castor oil and beeswax mix.
Remember nits prefer clean hair, so it is a backhanded compliment!

I am sure that you have already heard this but you have to sit down and literally pick out all of the nits. The combs dont work they will just wreck you girls hair. Sit them down with a comb and make very small sections with the hair. Get a small scissor and cut out each individual hair that has a nit on it. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS AWFUL but it was the only way to get them out of my daughters hair because it is so thick. But if the nits are gone so are the lice than. You may have to do it a few times to make sure you dont miss anything.

The only thing I know that defiantly works and the nit don't build up a resistance to is baby oil. The only trouble with it is it leaves the hair greasy. Johnsons is the best, as you can wash it out after a couple of washes. The cheap stuff can take weeks to remove. It works by smothering the nits and also the eggs. Once they have gone if you mix a spray of lavender and tee tree oil and spray their hair with it everyday it's supposed to keep them at bay.

Make sure when you treat their head wash the sheets, spray the carpets and bedding with lice and nit killing foam. Wash the toys and clothes that can be washed in hot soapy water and toys and clothes that cant be washed bag them for 2 weeks to ensure the nits cannot survive. Good Luck because it is hard to get rid of them in girls hair. Make sure they don't use other peoples combs, brushes hats or anything like that.

Mayonnaise is a good one , ( real mayo) Apply to the hair and put a shower cap on and leave it on over night , then wash and comb the nits out the next morning . To keep lice from coming , I use Isopholis oil sheen spray on the girls I take care of . It gives the hair a nice sheen without weighing it down . Its good for all races. There is also a new lice treatment ,its called Ovide, its a shampoo that you leave in for 8-12 hours. It suppose to keep them from coming back also. I have included the web address below for you to refer to . Also , make sure you clean all linens ,curtains , towels hats , vacuum beds , sofas, ect. Place stuffed animals and things that cannot be washed in plastic bags for atleast two weeks. Wash in scolding hot water and dry on the high heat cycle Good Luck!

My daughter gets them all the time and it drives me mental. The only solution I've found that actually works is Hedrin, you need to leave it on overnight and comb their hair in the morning then wash it out. Repeat the process after 7 days and you should be free, for a while atleast. I found it really good, it kills the lice and the eggs. Make sure you wash all their bedding afterwards otherwise it's pointless doing it. Good luck
