I'm 18 years old and have always been a little chubby in my waist area. I've been trying to lose weight, but I always fall short on the food part of the plan. I think I'm eating the right things, but end up maybe eating too much of them or totally eating the wrong things. Can someone give me a diet plan that is healthy and is proven to reduce weight? (BTW, I'm 5'81/2 and 170 lbs.)

Okay, let me edit this a bit. First of all, I'm BLACK! Black girls have hips and thighs. You have to take race into account, geniuses. I'm not a little white girl. (excuse the language if it offends you). Second of all, I'm actually trying to find ADVICE, so if you're going to just be an a$$, then don't say anything. I'm looking for people who know what their talking about and have credible advice.

I like the Atkins diet. I've lost weight on it and feel very fit. it's all about vegetables, lean meats, and healthy carbs. It's not so much a diet as a healthy way of eating. Once I stopped eating so much fruit and replaced it with vegetables and low-sugar fruits, I lost a lot of extra fat.

Diet is not the answer to losing weight. Excersize is. Most people want instant gratification, but if you really want it, you have to work for it. Cardiovascular workouts will burn calories and the weight will come off, and some strength training to tone muscles is also helpful. Muscle helps burn fat. The more of it you have, the faster you burn the fat off.
Consider your diet like a budget. It takes approximately 3000 calories to equal 1 pound of body fat. If you cut your calorie intake by even a small amount and add excersize that burns another 300+ calories a day... you WILL lose the weight. I guarantee it.
I lost 30 pounds in 4 months by eating 4 small meals a day of about 300 calories each. (Campbell or Progresso soups are GREAT for this) along with excersizing 3-4 times a week on a treadmill for about 30-40 minutes each time. I found that it didn't matter exactly WHAT I ate, so long as I stayed in my calorie range and did my workout.
Try it!

I believe what the previous repliers meant was, It doesn't matter what you eat or how active you are, just so long as the amount of calories you take in is less than the amount of calories you expend.
"Calories in vs calories out"
Every diet plan in my opinion should be personally made, theres no reason for you to use someone else's diet plan. You probably have this idea that a lot of diet plans don't work, and that's not the case. The problem is, a lot of people don't work. People try to either crash diet and lose 10lbs in one week, or eat too much (gain fat) or eat too little (starvation mode/store fat). Though I agree a plan is necessary you need something tailored to your needs. Now, I won't give you a premade plan (because that would probably do you more worse than good) but I could help you if the question is, "can someone help me create a meal plan."
Oh, did I forget to mention that you should ignore everyone else's posts because they obvious have no clue what their talking about ;). Except maybe a few, but they ignored the question at hand.
COMPLETELY ignore MistyRose's suggested, she had no idea what she is talking about. For one diet/exercises go hand-in-hand with losing weight while retaining muscle. Aside from that there are 3,500 calories per pound, she tends to think it is 3,000 but thats what you get when you guess.

You are 18 years old and 5'8-1/2" so the MAXIMUM you should weigh is 151 pounds. That's not a little chubby, that's overweight. As soon as you can be honest with yourself, the more chance you will have of successfully altering your life style that cause so much weight gain at such an early age. The key is that you recognize the issue now and want to work on it!
I would suggest you see a dietician to learn portion control and healthy eating habits that you can follow for your LIFETIME. Stay away from ALL of the fad diets -- Atkins can kill you! You want at LEAST 1,200 calories per day consisting mainly of lean protein, whole grains, fruits & vegetables. Drink at LEAST 64 ounces of water per day. Limit fat, alcohol, sugar and salt from your foods..
Also, exercise is vital. Aerobics and strength training in combination. Your workouts should be at LEAST 60 minutes per day, every day! Best of luck to you.
And honey, ALL women have hips and thighs. Black women don't have a monopoly on body parts. Race is irrelevant so please don't make it an issue. If you're going to make excuses, you will never be successful. You can achieve your goals -- but you have to first admit what the issues are and then change your behavior to reach and maintain your ideal healthy weight.

easy answer to this go to a pro who will sort it out for you--if you want to improve your health generally, lose weight and have more energy then getting some nutritional help is vital. Once your body starts to absorb the right nutrients and vitamins and protein then you’ll be amazed how quickly you will feel the difference, usually within the first 48 hours if you get the right supplements and help. I had no energy and felt just generally rotten all round so I sought the advice of a nutritional coach (whose advice was FREE) and got myself some great products, I even got free samples before I got started so I could see just how good they were!! There is a website called myhealthabc.com If go on there and fill out the details (you must be over 18 and you’ll need a debit or credit card-or someone who can help you) page you will get a call with no pressure about what you need. There is a mall area as well that’s got some great info and its all set out with easy to follow headings so you can find what you want. It’s so easy and the stuff they have is excellent. I have been using their products for over two years and I feel great. I lost 70 pounds in less than seven months!! My sister lost 60 pounds in five months. The stuff is amazing. Try them you won’t be disappointed.

1st. You should NOT worry too much about your weight, there are far more important things in life. If you worry too much, then it all back fires and you never get anywhere.
2nd. Make sure you start a diet that you think you will enjoy and stick to.
3rd. Exercise, exercise, exercise, burn off those calories! Exercise is healthy, stimulating, distracting (from food) and makes you feel better about yourself. You can do any form of exercise you like: swimming, cycling, running, rowing, skiing, climbing, team sports, trampolining, kissing, walking, dancing, yoga etc.
4th. My recomended diet: eat as many vegetables, fruit or salad as you like... its not the amount of food you eat, its the type of food that we shovel into our mouths these days! I guarantee that if you dont eat any pasta, bread, pastries, wheat based products, dairy products, butter, fats or sugar then you will loose weight...
So just eat loads of veg, fruit and salad.
Also, for good nutrition and to get all the proteins that you need, eat a small portion of fresh, unprocessed meat or fish once everyday.
This is a natural and healthy diet and you dont have to cut down on the amount you eat for it... and you will thrive as a person.
Good luck, and above all, have fun! :-)

it sounds sucky, but i cut out sugar and refined carbs for two weeks and just ate lean protein and veggies...i guess it's pretty much the south beach diet...but i immediately started losing weight in my belly/waist. it's kind of strange not being able to eat things like pasta, but it wasn't that hard. and i feel better physically than i have in months. on the other hand-5'8 with hips and thighs isn't a bad thing at all! good luck.

If you move enough, it won't matter what you eat you'll loose weight! You can't sit around and do nothing and adjust your diet and expect to loose weight, you have to get moving! Eat what you already are and start exercising hard for 3 weeks and you'll see I'm right!

UP your activity in a day...
walk more...
just incorporate into your lifestyle ...don't bother with gyms..
and don't count calories.. just EAT as healthily as you possibly can.. .. protein is better for hunger pangs than carbs or fat.. you will feel less hungry with a high protein snack...
look up protein foods on your browser...
then keep a little box of high protein bites in your fridge..
