i try to exfoliate once a week. i have the bath and body works true blue spa "i'm in the mood for scrub" sudsing exfoliant, but i'm almost out. it was a gift, and i hate to pay $20 for any product. The others that I have found that they sell at Wal-Mart, etc. are basically sugar and oil, and I HATE the oiliness. any cheaper alternatives that suds up and are not oily?

I make my own :)

1/2 cup white sugar
1/8 cup yogurt (I suggest plain or vanilla , but if you want a frangrance, make sure it's blended or has no chunks of fruit)
2 tablespoons dry oatmeal
a shot of champagne.

OHHH does it work!!!! The sugar exfoliates, the yogurt makes skin soft and smooth, the oatmeal soothes, and a shot of champagne gives a fantastic finish. Unfortunately it doesn't suds but its not oily at all.

You can always use facial scrubs as all over body scrubs as well. The St.Ives apricot scrub works great. There is also also medicated and one that is for sensative skin or different skin types.

I make my own scrubs with sugars and oils since I have dry skin, but if you dont like the oiliness you can always get some sort of cleansing cream(body wash in cream form) or lotion and mix it with the salts or sugar ( use brown sugar). It works great I sometimes will use my fav moisturizing lotion mix it with some brown sugar and it works great.

Be creative and add different ingredients and scents to see which one works best for you.

Mix 1 cup fine sea salt (found in any grocery store, and make sure it's 'sea salt')
3-4 tblsp moisturizing body wash (liquid soap)
2-3 tablsp olive or grape seed oil
2 tsp lemon juice (optional)

You can play with this recipe by adding
-dried rose petals,
-lavender flowers,
-rosemary or
-grated fresh ginger root.

Stir together and keep in a small tupperware container in your shower.

If you don't want to add the oil make sure you use a moisturizing liquid soap or this will be too drying on your skin.

Have fun and enjoy!

Try E-bay!
Look for a salt scrub or sugar scrub that foams. Look for jojoaba(spell) oil and or almond oil as they will absorb well and not leave you feeling greasy. Good Luck.

You can make your own with sea salt. Add glycerine instead of oil to hold the grains together and add esential oils if you like. If you would like it to suds up, add liquid soap...but be aware that you will have reduced suds because of the grains of salt.

Try sugar, baking soda and your usual soap. Put a little sugar (@ 2 TBS.) and baking soda (@ TBS.) in a non-breakable dish. When you lather up, dip your fingers in the sugar and baking soda mix. Rub, dip again, rub, dip again. It really makes your skin very soft and supple. And it's so cheap! Great for a face scrub, too.

sea salt is a great body exfoliator. I use it and my skin is great. I also use Caress body wash, Tahitian renewal. That works great to without drying out my skin.
