Vandalism is considered a comprehensive claim. First thing you need to do is go to a body shop and get an estimate. If the estimate exceeds your deductible amount, you may file a claim.

Now keep in mind, if you have a high deductible, like say $500, then your insurance will only pay that which exceeds your deductible. So if that scratch costs $700 to fix, you will be paying $500 of that out of pocket, and your insurance will only pay $200. Some people would rather pay the whole thing themselves and never involve the insurance. But that's your decision. Just something to think about before you take action.

In MOST cases, comp claims are considered no-fault claims, and they do NOT affect your rates. However, the details on this vary from company to company. Next, did you file a police report for the vandalism? Some companies require a report for vandalism claims, some do not. It's always a plus if you have one.

Before filing anything, check with your agent and ask him how the claim may affect your rates. If he says it's no-fault and won't affect you, then file away my friend. But keep in mind, like another poster said, if you file a claim for every little problem you have, the company may try to cancel your policy or raise your deductible. So please, only file claims when you really cannot afford to have the issue taken care of yourself!

Vandalism is covered under the comprehensive portion of your insurace..not the collision portion. May want to check to see what your deductable is before you file the claim. If you have a $500 or $1000 deductable...you may as well pay for the repairs and not put the claim on your policy.. If you do put file the claim..yes, there is a good chance the cost of your insurance will go up. Having the alarm may offset some of the cost..but I don't think turning 21 will make a difference. (depends on if your male or female I think)......

If you put in a small claim, like a 36" scratch, it's likely your insurance won't go up - but this varies by state, so you'll have to ask your agent.

Depending on your deductible, damages might not even be over the deductible amount.

If you continue to file small (under a couple hundred) claims, it's likely that the insurance company will do their best to either cancel your policy, or require you to increase the deductible.

Vandalism will not raise your premiums. Neither will an accident that was officially not your fault.

A hint: Make note of your deductible on your policy and compare it to the repair amount. You don't want to file a claim for $15.00

If your insurance pays out money because you were at fault in an accident, it's almost a certainty that your rates will go up. If they are paying out because of something that was not your fault, it MAY go up. Ask your agent when you file the claim, he would know more than we would.
