I am not getting married. My friends wife was mad at me because I suggested such a thing. I was the Best Man.

I completely agree. Some people need a better sense of perspective.

I am a woman. I think women feel that they need a large expensive wedding because it is what society teaches them. It is not always what is the 'need', but is certainly the 'want'! I had the whole beautiful fairytale wedding, and now I have nothing but regrets and huge debt from the wedding! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed my wedding and it was very beautiful, but I could have had the same amount of fun if it was just the 2 of us and eloped!!! Tell your fiancee that you have spoke to many people about this, and I would say probably 80% of us regret spending so much money on our wedding. Tell her to remember that the union of the two of you is for the two of you, NOT for everyone else!!!

Women don't NEED a large and expensive wedding, They WANT one. Typically the woman will only do so if the husband or daddy allows it.
I was recently married in November and I agree with you, I am a bride who did not have a dad to pay for everything, I consulted with my now husband and we agreed a smaller wedding would produce faster results of a home purchase.
The answer you are looking for will be different by all women because we all have different outlooks and views on life.
Good Luck!
:)

we don't!! there's a scam of sorts out there in the wedding industry that makes us pay more than we really should. locations, cateres, photographers all have special rates for weddings that are more expensive than anything else they do, even though it's the same exact service for some business dinner to be catered as a wedding!! they know they'll get more money that way.

with that said: i can't speak for all women, but i myself would be just as happy to not have all of that and get married just my fiance and i somewhere getting married the two of with no frivolties as i would be having the wedding we plan on having at this point. it doesn't matter who's there or how much you pay or if the guests are impressed. al that matters is what is said between the groom and the bride!

Women don't need a big expensive wedding, they want it., to show off the big det there starting there new life together with, Oh and some guys want a big party (reception). I myself got married at the court house, and had a reception two months later. Been married 14yrs. But I wish I could gotten married in a church. Im hoping that one day when and if we renew our vowels that will happen. Some of us do want that fairytale wedding (not a big one)

Women are believing the saying that they only marry once in their life why not make it a dream and memorable one. Although some women today are marrying more than once, they still want to show off and have a bash on their wedding. But there are practical ones also that might accept your second suggestion.

Not all women 'need' a large expensive wedding - alot of the time they are pushed into inviting waaay to many people by their families- friends, relatives, co-workers...it gets out of control!!
Remember- it takes two people to have and plan a wedding...it's not always on the woman!

i agree with you. me and my man plan on just getting married a justice of peace because the only reason most people even go to weddings is for food and drinks. ill be damned if people are gonna come o my wedding because of that. we are going on a honeymoon to sandals or a cruise tho. i would rather go on an expensive honeymoon and then buy a house than have a 50,000 wedding.

Hey not all of us do!

A judge is just fine with me.

In fact I think it should just be the couple and whoever is going to marry them. A lot more intimate and a lot less stressful.

Men like expensive weddings too, by the way. A lot of times, for both sexes, it shows status and power.

Women want the fairy tale wedding....lots of family members, and friends, flowers up the ying yang, fancy (and expensive) wedding dress, and cake (which usually tastes gross)the whole nine yards..but realistically, it costs too dam much! haha...i say spend a lil on the wedding (get a duncan hines cake..tastes better).and spend the rest on the honeymoon. (should already have the house)
