People who are afraid and ignorant. Bigotry is the result of fear and the lack of information, usually due to not being educated or under-educated.

They are so afraid at what they don't understand and, without education which usually gives one the power of reason, they strike out.

You have to wonder what kind of household they were raised in that would produce such misfits.
