How long can someone with bi polar's mania stage last? Unmedicated?

Bi-polar is a form of depression - it does not go away. People with this condition have extreme mood swings. Happy one day and won't get out of bed the next.
These swings vary from person to person. However, left untreated they only get worse. It's important that people with Bi-polar take their medication and avoid alcohol.
The longer the Bi-Polar person goes without medication the longer it takes to recover from the manic depressed stage.

Mania can last as long as your body can handle it. I usually will knock myself out after 3 or 4 days without sleep because if I go too long paranoia sets in and I get psychotic. This can be a very painful way to feel. If you're manic but upset and paranoid and nervous it's called hypo- mania. There are lots of anti-psychotic meds. . My personal favorite is old fashioned thorazine. Mania is great ! But, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Lock up your credit cards and load up on birth control ! Good Luck !

I could last very long until something triggers the crash of the depression. Not a good idea to let it work itself out. My Aunt's had Mania that lasted almost a year when she went off her meds.
