perhaps it has to do with their alcoholism. its widely known in the scientific community that bears, especially ursus americanus or the common black bear, possess certain afflictions that, accompanied with their addictive personality, make them dangerous friends. alcoholism, drug use, and spousal abuse is rampant in low income black bear communities. there are many organizations and groups of forest animals trying to clean up the bear ghettos but the problem is spreading. the best thing campers can do is to protect their booze or drink it as fast as possible.

I think its because they are easy to get into and bears seem to love sweet things. Their sense of smell is good enough that I think they probably can tell what is in there before they open them.
