You'd lose that bet - we have a common ancestor with monkeys about 40 million years ago. Its not quite the same thing as evolving from them - I suspect none of the species around now looked the same that long ago.
Phrased correctly like that its easy to refute the creationists "if we came from monkeys why are there still monkeys?"
It becomes something like 'If we came from the same grandfather, why do I have cousins? - Hardly a devasting argument, is it?
In fact phrased as it normally is its incredibly stupid because its a refutation of creationism - not evolution! The only reason religious people would ask why monkeys are still around is because they seem to think humans are the point of the world - nobody who understands evolution thinks that - yet every religious person does so they should have to explain why monkeys exist.
You can't really discuss that kind of thing with a fundamentalist because they're not smart enough to grasp what you're saying.

Their cosmology is absolute and does not allow for the variables the evolution introduces. It is also based on species racism, man is superior to all the other species, thus man cannot be related to any other species.
Incidentally we did not come from monkeys, we share a common ancestor with apes, we evolved together. They are our cousins, not our grandparents.

Maybe they deny the idea of evolution cos your betting a silly amount of money on the fact we can from monkeys when monkeys are still around (and look the same as before evolution prehaps?).
Evolution/big bang don't give any support to the idea of religion-prehaps that's why maby religious people deny evolution as the evolution theory denies their religion....

no we didn't. we came from an animal that's neither man or ape but a combination. as for Adam he is a man who came in strange way without a father or a mother, i don't no how, so religious people think he is the father of all humanity while he might be the father of the middle east nations only.

because they think it excludes the idea of god. all it really discredits is a specific story written by mankind when they were not advanced enough to understand the truth. i can't understand how they accept that Jesus told parables (stories that were not factually true, but used to make a point.) but can't accept that the story of creation given to (or created by) men when we were just learning to put seeds in the ground.... might not have reflected the reality that took us another 6000yrs to figure out.......
in short, they do not understand the nuances of their own religion, and therefore see anything contrary to what they understand as an attack on it.
that evolution is true does not discredit religion. that many religious can't accept this does not either. it just makes for an annoying discussion that bypasses the underlying issues whenever atheists and Christians start to argue.

Contrary to what many atheists believe the bible was not written by complete idiots. In order to convince and slave the people, future thought must be given.
For example, bow to no other gods, Satan is trying to deceive you. The writers of this tabloid realized that they would have to scare the hell out of these people in order to enslave them.
What better way then encourage them to deny everything they see and hear if it does not pertain to the bibles devine teachings. And then when explanation eludes them, you can always say. The devil did it.

Okay, if we came from monkeys then why are monkeys still here? Wouldn't all monkeys evolve into humans by now? That's a stupid theory...read the Bible, we were made in His likeness and that's all there is to it. I seriously doubt God is or was a monkey.

I bet you the price of your soul that we don't come from an ancestry of apes. I hope you would not forfeit your soul so easily. Don't be duped by man. For when one(who didn't believe) stands before God and says Oh Lord Lord. The Lord will say, depart from me, I knew you not.

They need something to believe and someone to pray for... Some will even say they feel there is a God.
Nothing wrong with believing.. We all need to believe in something-- Just dont attack anyone else for their beliefs
Is there a God? Maybe.... anything is possible but i cannot deny the theory of evolution, the facts are facts!
