My boyfriend apparently never really does the whole valentines thing. What can i suggest we do that would be special, but not OTT. Of course i'd love to be swept of my feet but that clearly isn't going to happen, lol - unless he's playing dumb and planning something. but if we end up doing nothing i'll b a little angry

Book a table for two at your fave restaurant. Tell him earlier in the day about it. If he's got plans, he'll tell you. If not, you shouldn't let his lack of common sense spoil your evening! Show him how good you are with these things and how important he is to you! Maybe it will be an eye opener for him.

Believe me, you are not alone - a lot of men are not into celebrating Valentine's Day. Let's face it - we want the chocolate, the flowers, and dinner at a romantic restaurant. We want to be swept off our feet and our boyfriends feel that they will never be able to meet our expectations, so they resent the holiday and may not want to do anything at all.

Perhaps you could acknowledge that it is a commercial holiday but that it would mean a lot to you to commemorate it in some way, as to you, the holiday is about doing something special for one another. There are a number of ways to celebrate without breaking the bank - including cooking dinner together at home. Candles, wine, music...your man might appreciate a romantic, yet low-key evening. Why not take the lead? I know it is usually a leap year the girls can ask the guys to marry them, but why not leave holiday brochures around, or send an email from a friend's email add suggesting he should do something special. Or why not name a star/buy plot on the moon and then go out and see it, under the stars, in the moonlight, things might................?! You get the idea!

As far as I'm concerned, nothing beats a quiet afternoon at home, eating chocolates and drinking coffee, or buying takeaway food and eating it with your fingers, or just cuddling on the sofa whole day. Being around each other all day is the most precious thing in the world, use it!

How about suggesting the two of you go out and get dinner together? You both have to eat . . .

Try a simple dinner, and taking desert home and enjoying it with a movie in you sleepwear.
