You have nothing to worry about. Cat's are like this at first there just getting used to you and if you say you rescued her she could of been though a lot and might be a bit scared.
I have a cat myself and she would rather sit on a newspaper than any where comfortable, and she loves going into cupboards and open draws! Scratching she will just grow out of, there not much discipline you can really do with a cat.
Try not to stroke her face on either they feel threatened if you do this.
Have you any little cat toys? My cat loves these and it might keep her away from your door!

You don't say how old she is but you need to have her checked out by a vet. It seems as though she may be in pain or feel unwell. At least if the vet checks her you will know whether she is okay or not. She might also have just gone astray and could be chipped which would indicate that she is missing her owners. The vet will run a scanner over her. My guess is that she is feeling poorly. Good luck with her.

The same thing happened with my grandmother's cat. At first he loved the attention and then later that evening he got all angered up.
It could be an anexity setting in. They're afraid because something's different, and though they adapt to change rather quickly, some of them that have "bad" pasts, get scared.
My best advice is to wait it out. If you got her from a shetler, most of them check for lots of aggresiveness, so they wouldn't let you adopt a very human-agressive cat.
If this continues, I would suggest calling the shelter you got her from, and asking them. Record the behavior (Know how she's acting), then after a month, if the aggression hasn't lessened, or gone completely, call the place where you got her from.
I hope this works out for you. :]

Has she been spayed? It might be that she's coming into season - it can make us girls VERY temperamental lol.
If she has been spayed try getting some Bach rescue remedy for her, or some Feliway - it calms them down.
I've got three girls and five boys - the girls HATE being picked up.
Is she eating properly? Might be worth a visit to the vet for a check up - she might have a tummy ache, or sore throat or anything.
Good luck with her, hon xxxx

do you know how old she is? she may just be trying to release extra energy. when she acts up, leave her alone. let her come to you.
as for the issues of the cupboards and wardrobes, that's just natural curiosity. if you dont want her there, stick some foil or something smooth. they dont like that on their paws.
we have a crazy cat too. we got her from someone who use to keep her outside on a small terrace and would not play with her. she claws and goes bonkers and attacks. but if we leave her alone, she is the sweetest cat.
hope this helps.

she sounds like shes either in some sort of pain, ( more than likely) or she is getting far too much attention. you said "her" through many years of experience with cats, i have found the females are less friendly, this is obviously not always the case, I'm just throwing some ideas your way.If I were you, I would take her to the vet for a check, he will tell you whats wrong with her.

my cat is a female cat and she has her moments when she is incredibly loving and moments when she would rather bite you then have you look at her, i think as its not normally for very long its just thier time of the month or the equivalent and se gets really very stroppy around this time so just back off for a while and wait for he t come to you again.

I think you should take her to the vet for a check up, maybe something hurts and thats why she doesn't want you to touch her, You could try coaxing with treats? Be patient she'll come to you when she's ready

I can only think of three reasons. Your cat could be feeling it's age. If your cat is a queen she could be pregnant. Your cat could have sore spots under it's fur. There is another one i've just thought of. Someone has been abusing it.
