See i have wanted a tongue ring for a long time coming now, and i've been patient enough wait and get it done once my mother can't have any say so. now that i've come up pregnant im having second thoughts but i still want it done VERY badly. My fiance and i are planning a trip to Albany soon and that would be the perfect time to get it done. But the question is... can i? As much as i would hate to do it i would wait longer if it means protecting my baby from anything. Hey i waited this long, I can wait longer. And by the way I'm going on 4 months now.

It is not advisable to have any body decoration procedure that would involve breaking the skin while you are pregnant. This includes procedures like piercing, tattooing or scarification. Most studios have made it a policy not to perform tattoos or piercings on anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. When you get a tattoo or piercing, you face a small chance of an allergic reaction or an infection. It just isn't worth the risk when you can just wait a few extra months and then get the tattoo or piercing you desire.

Any invasive procedure normally involves a small risk of infection. If you are pregnant, this might adversely affect your baby. You also risk contracting a blood borne disease if the needles used are not properly sterilized or are contaminated in some way. Your body is changing and you have enough to worry about without the added worry of caring for a new piercing. It is better to have a piercing completely healed before becoming pregnant; otherwise it might not heal properly until after your baby is born.

I wouldn't get it until after the pregnancy for two reasons. First, you are having second thoughts. Although a tongue ring is easily removed, you may have a scar that will last forever under your tongue. Secondly, when you give birth, especially if you must have a C-section, you will have to remove ALL JEWLERY! This means your tongue ring and it may close up, since it won't have a real long time to heal. Then you would have to get it redone anyway.

I suggest that you wait.

Though infections are somewhat rare, you don't want to risk getting any kind of disease or illness related to the piercing which can cause harm to not only you but the baby.

Though nothing can happen, better safe than sorry, I would wait. I'm a professional piercer, and I never mod anyone pregnant or under the influence of any substances.

I wouldn't suggest it. You don't want to risk the chance of getting an infection. Cause that could affect the baby. If you waited this long, you can definatly wait until after you have the baby. The baby is more important.

I know it sucks that you have to wait, but I really would. I mean, you might not have any problems at all. But, I sure would hate to hear that you got an infection or something. If you can, wait till your baby is born.

Have fun on your trip!

it's not a good idea to get any kind of body modification done while you're pregnant. there's no point in putting yourself at any unnecessary risk of infection. just wait until after your baby comes.

A tongue piercing at any time is ill-advised (see link below), but please don't do it while you're pregnant and could possibly jeopardize not only your health, but that of your baby.
