I am going on a trip and I was wondering if when you store your shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, ect. in a suitcase below the airplane will it explode? I heard this from a friend and I was wondering if it is true? (I do not want to put my shampoo in a tiny travelsize, in my carry on)

It won;t actually explode but the bags get thrown around a lot in loading/unloading, so the tops could easily come off or open a bit. If you want to put big bottles of shampoo, etc in your checked bags, just put each bottle into a zip-lock baggie and make sure it is tightly sealed. That way if the top comes off, or careless bag handlers drop the bag hard enough to make the bottle split, the shampoo will stay in your baggie and not ruin your clothes.

It's True That Sometimes Liquids Do Explode When They Are Checked With Your Luggage But It's Rare If You Do Certain Things. It's Because Of The Pressure Change From Ground Level To The High Altitude Of The Plane. When The Plane Gets Higher, Liquids Expand So Try Emptying A Little Bit Of The Shampoo Into A Small Bottle To Leave At Home Or To Put Into Your Carry On. That Will Relieve Some Of The Pressure On The Bottle When It Expands. Also, Try Putting Your Bottles Into A Small Plastic Bag So If They Do Explode It Won't Get On Your Things. Hope That Helps

Generally, no, it doesn't "explode". What has happened to me, and I think this is more likely the cause of the "explosions", is overfilling containers, then packing them poorly. Also, baggage handlers load the baggage under the plane quickly and efficiently--without much concern for which end is "up" on your bag, or how many big, heavy bags are on top of yours. I always pack shampoo, toothpaste, and anything else that could potentially make a mess, in it's own zip bag, then in a toiletries bag. Do that, and you won't have much troubles.

The first time I went on a plane, I made the mistake of packing sunscreen. It exploded all over my stuff, including a dry-clean only jacket that still has stains on it.

i don't know about where you are but over here you're not allowed to take stuff like that at least out of the original container, why not buy a bottle when you get there? better than having your luggage blown up by a bomb squad and being dragged off the plane as a potential terrorist

It can... If you pack it in checked bags, put it in plastic baggies to keep it from leaking all over your clothes. I found out the hard way.
