Don't count on the papers. Being a breeder I tell people all the time do not buy a puppy with out the puppy papers. There is no reason why a breeder or a pet store, ( PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER BUY FROM A PET STORE). can't have litter papers when they sale a puppy. I also doubt it very much the puppy you bought was a championship breed. Take this as a lesson learn and love your puppy. It isn't the puppy fault that the little one got into the wrongs hands. I hope things are alright with the puppy. Some puppies from Pet Stores don't last more than six weeks For reasons you don't even want to know. Your puppy is still your puppy with or without papers.

Well, your big mistake was buying from a pet store at all. These dogs/puppies come from puppy mills and many of them are sick, or will have genetic issues that will turn up later down the line. Pet stores are THE WORST PLACE to buy a puppy from.

Sounds like they are just jerking you around. In reality, considering where the dog came from, you don't need the paperwork anyway. For one thing, any dog from a pet store should not be bred. And if you want to participate in AKC sanctioned events, you can still do so without proper paperwork IF 1) your dog does appear to be purebred, 2) you have the dog altered, and 3) you pay a fee of $20.

Next time, spend the money on a puppy from a reputable breeder. Pet stores support mass breeding puppy mills and buying from the pet store supports the puppy mill and the deplorable conditions they subject their dogs to. You also risk getting a dog that actually isn't a real purebred, but they pass it off as one because it "looks" like it.

There is no legal reason they cant give the money back, computers dont rule the world, they entered the information so they can remove it. If the pet store owner knew anything about dogs!! as soon as it was coughing it should of been checked for kennel cough that is usually why pups cough and can be fatal, as you now know. If you didnt sign any legal agreement saying you would pay for the pup regardless of condition she shouldnt have a leg to stand on. You need to check your local laws though. If anything the pet store should have to pay all the vet bills. but every city/state is different?? also some of pet stores will get pups from poor breeders for cheap and hike up the price, or get them from mills. You are probably a lot better off getting a dog from a rescue, many time they have full blooded dogs and full blooded pups? look on petfinder you can search by age, breed, location all of that and they wont send you home a sick dog and if something was wrong with the dog it is fixed but the adoption fee usually stays the same and i have never seen a $1,000 adoption fee average is $250 or less.

do people STILL buy from pet stores?? My god...you are not getting an akc papered dog from a pet store....what you are probably getting is an inbred puppy that has been sitting in a cage for the eight weeks prior to you buying it...do a little research...BUYING a dog from a pet store was a really uninformed error in judgement. You'll be LUCKY if you don't have some serious health problems soon. I would get that dog to a vet immediately for a check up. As for the papers...small claims...but I'll BET that the akc status is NOWHERE in your paperwork...If it is you might have a case. I hope your puppy is happy and healthy.

You should always buy dogs from breeders. All you have to do is enter the breed you are interested in on the internet and you will get all the info you need.
But, since you are past that stage. Contact your local Better Business Bureau. They will have more luck getting you satisfaction than the store.
You can get AKC registered dogs from pet stores, but it may be questionable. I once saw an AKC St. Bernard at a pet store with a pointed nose.

Call the BBB they can give you the update on that pet store.I would contact the AKC and see if the paper work takes months.I hope the dog is a good one for you.Talk to the owner one more time, and tell them you plan on contacting someone within 14 days if something is not resolved..That will get you the input you need from the owner.Take it to Judge Mathis...I'll be watching.....

Don't trust pet stores! They don't sell AKC puppies and they definately do not sell champion breeds! Remember to always sign a contract when dealing with these matters! Especially if you are looking for a registered animal, without a contract it is your word against theirs. Also, 400 dollars is very low for registered puppies. I don't know what breed you bought, but usually registered puppies don't sell for less than $500. Sorry to hear about your troubles, at least you have a loving animal.

Call AkC they will be able to tell u... I agree pet stores don't sell purebred dogs.. and they charge way to much anyways... could have gone to the Humane Society and gotten a mixed that would have been just as good for less and saved their lives..

I really hate to burst your bubble but pet stores do not sell AKC registered dogs. It's to much money for them to pay. They usually get their dogs from puppy mills.

The only way to get an AKC registered dog w/ health papers etc is through a certified, licensed breeder.

Sorry.

Yes, contact the "akc" and have them check into it. Threaten to have the store investigated for Fraud. If you have a Lawyer friend, have them send the store a letter . Other than that, Just Nag the hell out of them, call twice every day.
