green like the ones you can buy in the supermarket fully sprouted? The instructions say to keep them in a dark place while they are growing, but surely this can't be right. Don't they need sunlight for the miracle of chlorophyll? They are growing, not ripening.

Without sunlight of any kind the sprouts will be white. You are right, a little light makes the chlorophyll develop. Good call. Now go buy a grow light our put them in a window, WATCH closely or they will grow TOO big to be good.

Are you growing 'mung bean sprouts' or 'alfalfa bean sprouts' or what? If you have them in a good 'sprouting jar' and you are changing their water daily then they should be 'just fine' but aren't quite grown up enough. They don't 'need sunlight' for 'the miracle of chlorphyll' ... since they get 'enough light' for you to see that they are 'pale and anemic' then they are getting 'enough light' ... so I think that you may be just thinking they should be 'fully grown sprouts' when they haven't had time to 'get there' yet.

Once sprouted, yes, they need sun. Set them in a sunny spot.
