I got my belly peirced 2 1/2 months ago, and it did really well with healing, I kept it clean and changed it out a month afterward. It stopped getting crusty soon, and was doing well but today I notice that the bottom of it is gooey.

The top hole is perfectly healed, but the bottom is now gooey and I'm wondering if this has happened to you, how long does it take to heal, and can I clean it with alcohol until I get home to use antibacterial soap?

Can anyone share with me experiences of their piercing.. and no, I don't want to take it out, it was a 'turning 21' birthday piercing and I love it!

Chances are, by changing the jewelry after a month, your tore the fistula which is the tube of flesh that heals inside the piercing. It is never advisable to change the jewelry until the piercing is completely healed which is an average of 6 months, but can be up to a year for some people. If the jewelry is causing healing or health problems, you should have your piercer change it so you don't risk hurting yourself and the piercing.

Also, stop using alcohol. Its a very harsh cleaner and though people have used it without complications, it often irritates piercings, dries out surrounding skin and can slow healing greatly. Also avoid using peroxide, Bactine, neosporin and other harsh cleaners.

Stick with the anti-bacterial soap and use a sea salt soak every night for 5-10 minutes. Sea salt is a very gental and natural remedy that does wonders.

You really only need to wash the piercing twice a day with the soap and water. During the day, do not play with the piercing, don't touch it or pick off crust and be careful not to bump it around a lot.

If you have issues with healing and aren't sure if something is right, talk with your piercer. Good luck.

When I first got mine done, the people at the place I got it swore that the surgical steel was high grade, well guess what? It wasn't... so mine ended up getting infected. I went to a different piercing parlor and they changed it to a titanuim ring, and then the healing wasn't so bad. I'd guess it took about 6 months for it to heal all the way. I would check to see what kind of metal the ring you changed it to was, and as a previous poster noted you may have just gotten some soap and or bacteria stuck in there and may need to clean it out.

If the ooze is green or yellow, then chances are it is infected. Just go back to the way you were cleaning it with salt water and antibacterial soap, and it should heal up fine. One sugestion I will make is during the healing process to change to a circular ring instead of a barbell.. I found this made it much easier to clean when I was getting rid of the infection than your standard barbell.

Good luck with it healing up! I wouldn't worry too much about it.. at 2.5 months, its still got some healing time left anyway, just go back to your post piercing care!

I got mine done when I was 16....now I'm 24.
Mine took about a year before I could tell it was completely healed.
I also want to mention that I experienced the same thing when I changed the jewelry for the first time. I got the "gooey" thing too, and the strangest thing, it happened just on the bottom hole. (freaky)
Anyway....I just kept on cleaing it, except I went down to once a day, with antibacterial soap, and after a few weeks, it was fine. Just keep cleaning it, (not with alcohol!), just soap, and it should be fine. Good luck to you!

The healing process takes about 6 months to a whole year.
I never changed my belly ring until it was a whole year that i got it peirced. I think you should wait about a year until you start changing your ring, just to be on the safe side. I had friends that had started messing with their piercings before they even completed 6 months of getting it done and they all started having problems with infections.

so, i know you probably really want to change your ring already....but be patience and wait. :D

the good news is you might not have to take it out!!! it oculd be something as simple as some soap got stuck in the ehole when you last washed and is simply comingout. isthe gooey stuff yellow or greenish colored?? if so then its probably infected and i would say just sawyt it with soap and do the sea salt treatments. with body peircings you shouldn't use alcohol since it kills new skin cells.

the first time I had it done it took about a year to heal. Then I lost the bar. Had it done again 2 years ago and this time it got ripped out, NEVER AGAIN! use lots of sea salt and bactine, good luck with that.
