The existence of god is debated because Christians are saying that society should not get abortions, or have homosexual marriage, atheist couldn't care less about other' people's matters, however, they don't want their rights dictated by people who believe in God, and when religious folks are killing in the name of god, and being bigots and intolerable, the desire to start a debate grows considerably.

This is one of the biggest reasons we exist, is to figure out why we are here. And to speak of God to is to understand that maybe our life has purpose outside of what we can see, hear, feel, taste, and touch.
For many people that like to argue, they are bitter against God as Satan was from the beginning of time. The story of hate and bitterness goes back to the first humans born on the planet.
Cain hated Abel because Cain was wrong and Abel was right.
People debate because inside of them lies the seed of God or the seed of the Devil. Now the seed of God does know he is accepted of God, but the seed of the Devil does always doubt and fear. so he argues with the seed of God to find a place to fit into life, but since there is no place for him in God's kingdom he perceives this eventually because he is without faith and he cannot harm God so instead he can do the next best thing is kill God's children. This is why children of God do not argue and children of the Serpent argue, is because it promotes anger, which leads to insanity, and insanity leads to killing and wars and all of the Devil's children do love to kill, steal and destroy.

It's not a debate, really. He doesn't exist, but some people still refuse to let it go. So, it's kinda like convincing a small child that Santa isn't really. Some might fight it, but you just have to keep telling them the truth.

I think we hope someone will read our logical rationalizations and understand that there is no basis for their fanaticism. In this realization we hope that our entire way of life, our government, will no longer be influenced by the teachings of a dead religion. That every human will have the right to live, and choose happiness in the ways that they deem necessary. As long as these beliefs do not encroach on the rights of others. This was the idea of America as laid out by our founders. What a sick and twisted place we have become.

Everyone believes in how they think it ought to be. None are going quietly. Part of it is due to how one is raised, while part of it is due to a sort of peer pressure. Some debate, or even participate, in religion because they have to know they've tried. Some just need the exhibition. Most view God, or lack thereof, as something they want Him to be.

The same reason 6 year olds debate Santa Claus; they haven't grown up enough to realize magical, invisible people aren't real.

We don't. We either believe one way or the other. Debate implies that you could sway someone to believe in your point of view by argument and logic.

good question.
could it be the pride of man, that does not allow them to discern the truth about God, matched with their fear that there just might be a God leads them to intellectually war against God?
I think so.
oh, by the way, so does God!!

You're right there should be no debate.
If God was real then God would be able to make himself known and there would be no reason anyone to strach their head and say HUMM does God exist.
Since nothing like this occurs there must not be a God!

If we believe there is no God, then we can do whatever we want without having to answer to anyone.
I personally think it takes more faith to believe we developed from apes, than to believe in a creator God.
