The lining of your stomach contains cells that produce mucous. These cells form a layer that coats the inside of your stomach, and since mucous is one of those rare substances that holds up under acid, it protects your stomach from being digested. Ulcers occur when either an infection of the cells, or stress, cause the mucous producing cells not to produce enough mucous to maintain the coating.

they do! causes irritation and ulcers. when you are stressed and worried (and certain carcinogens) causes the stomach to produce more gastric acid when food is not in your stomach. therefore, this extra acid attacks the stomach walls. if you reduce your stress, stop smoking/dipping this will stop the over production. your stomach lining replaces itself.
