Me and my partner have just bought our first house. As it was a little over our budget, we now have about £850 to furnish the whole thing!! Any ideas where we can get nice, cheap furniture from?
We are in England.

You can go to IKEA. They have stores worldwide. They have inexpensive furniture..but beware some of it is very low quality. As others said, visit second hand stores or look in classifieds. Also, see if your friends and family are remodeling or getting new furniture. Alot of times they are willing to give you their old furniture. I am also on a budget and my couches and end tables and such were all given to me by friends and family members. If you get a used couch and hate the color or pattern, you can buy a slipcover or go to a fabric store and buy material that fits your taste. Old end tables and coffee tables can also be covered with fabric.

Here in the states, antique shops are popular and you can find some rare and wonderful pieces. Another option might be to try a consignment shop that sells gently used furniture. We also have a place in the states called the "Scratch and Dent" store. Perhaps England has something like this. You can purchase large appliances that may have cosmetic imperfections.

Second hand stores or friends with cluttered houses. Just keep in mind, furniture depreciates faster than a car! 50% the day it's taken home. If you look in the paper and it's "only 3 years old"... unless they have the original bill, it's probly 8 years old. If it was $500 new and it's 5 years old, it's worth about $50 at most in great shape... be ruthless, not in a hurray.
