Thanks for earlier answers. I realize both GoToMyPc & traditional Routing and Remote Access setup using VPN achieve the same purpose. However, we have some apps on a Citrix server & some apps on standalone PCs. Seems to me that Gotomypc offers out-of-the-box functionality for a very low cost. Besides costs, are there any advantages to not using gotomypc or like service - such as more secure or easier setup? thanks again

Traditional Routing/VPN is better. Much more secure. I don't like remote control applications becuase it exposes the corporate network to numerous vulnerabilities.

Do you need access to your files or a particular set of applications?

If just your files, VPN is the best.

If just your applications, VPN and Terminal Server is the best.

If a combination of both, VPN with Terminal Server and/or a corporate laptop.

Good luck!

Windows Terminal Server provides better functionality than RealVNC and GotomyPC.... We've used all three and although GoToMyPC was incredibly easy to use, nothing really beats using actual terminal services to connect to your remote desktop. It runs faster and smoother in everything you do...with RealVNC and GTMPC, you have to wait for the screen to refresh, etc... BTW...although terminal server licenses are ~$160 a piece...they are a one time fee (plus the server itself running Windows Server 2003 or newer if you don't already have a suitable one) and the quality is so good, that I can do every function of my job remotely!

I endorse making use of VPNPower to be able to unblock web-sites. I've been using them since 5 years. http://www.vpnpower.net
