Hi, sorry about your dog, but there's no need to give it up, like some others would have you do. There is home remedies for everything if you know where to look. Try going to http://www.earthclinic.com and read up on mange and doggie skin conditions. p.s. there are home remedies there too for this "itchiness w/hairloss".

Have the vet do a full thyroid panel. Also if its mostly on the flank it may be the harmless Seasonal Flank Alopecia which there really isn't much you can do but let time do its thing. Some people give melatonin for SFA.I've not had luck with that though. Your dog may also be allergic to the straw.

Have your vet check your dog's thyroid level, this is often an overlooked problem, don't ever give your pet OTC drugs without first checking with a vet and black oil is a definite no-no

benadrill is ok But it doesn't solve the problem. manage would cause a dog to loose hair. First off why is the dog in a pen? my dogs sleep in my bed and have full run of the house when I am home and gone. Your dog has serious problem. A dog should never be outside in hay when it is cold. You need to give the dog up to someone that will take better care of him.

Might be Mange, you can buy shampoo at the pet store or your vet might have it follow the directions, I believe you bath your dog 1x or 2x a week. I had a dog with the same problem.
