Just read the parable of the prodigal son.

It tells us in no uncertain terms that God is unconditionally loving.

This goes against all of the nonsense about Judgment and punishment and vengeance disguised as justice in the rest of the bible.

If you actually get bible believer to read it, at first they repeat what they have been told to think and say that it is a story about forgiveness.

If you point out that nowhere in the story does Jesus ever say that the Father judged the son in any way there is a long silence.

A few have the presence of mind to say that you need to interpret it in the larger context of the bible. In other words you need to borrow some judgment from some other part of the bible to see it the way they want you to see it.

Meaning I assume that Jesus made a mistake and you need to correct it for him. I personally don't think Jesus made any mistakes.

I think it says exactly what he always intended for it to say. That God loves us unconditionally, no matter what we do or don't do.

Love and blessings Don

Bible difficulties, or apparent Bible contradictions, exist. The opponents of Christianity often use them in their attempts to discredit Christianity. Sometimes these attacks undermine the faith of Christians who either don't understand the issues or don't have the resources to deal with them.

Opponents of Christianity will cite what they consider a Bible contradiction or difficulty by comparing one verse to another (or more) that seems to disagree with the first. In doing this, several verses are often referenced as being contradictory or problematic. Therefore, to make this section of CARM easy to use, it is arranged by verse for easy lookup. Since many of the same "difficulties" deal with one verse in opposition to another or even several others, I have listed all the verses addressed in the same answer. This makes the initial list look larger than it really is. For example, how many animals did Noah bring into the ark? Genesis 6:19-20 says two while Gen. 7:2-3 mentions seven. Therefore, both verses are listed and both links point to the same answer.

If we read the Bible at face value, without a preconceived bias for finding errors, we will find it to be a coherent, consistent, and relatively easy-to-understand book. Yes, there are difficult passages. Yes, there are verses that appear to contradict each other. We must remember that the Bible was written by approximately 40 different authors over a period of around 1500 years. Each writer wrote with a different style, from a different perspective, to a different audience, for a different purpose. We should expect some minor differences. However, a difference is not a contradiction. It is only an error if there is absolutely no conceivable way the verses or passages can be reconciled. Even if an answer is not available right now, that does not mean an answer does not exist. Many have found a supposed error in the Bible in relation to history or geography only to find out that the Bible is correct once further archaeological evidence is discovered.

You will find a lot of them. But you got to remember There are 40 different men that wrote the bible. Plus think about this. If you put 10 men and women in a line. And you tell the first person something by the time it gets to the last person the whole thing was changed. The best thing to do is take the bible as true. And just believe in God's word. Or go to a good bible teaching church and learn the bible. I'm a pastor and it took me years to learn the true word of god. And I'm still learning.
God bless you.

There are tons of contradictions in the Bible. Far too many to discuss here. One of the biggest is in the opening passages. According to Genesis, on the SIXTH day Elohim (a plural word) said, "Let us make men in our image." and men and women were made and given the world to look after. Then on the EIGHTH day Yahweh Elohim (a specific one) made a garden and Adam and then the whole sordid Tree of Knowledge affair ensues. The world was populated by the Other people who are again mentioned only occasionally throughout the Bible. The Other people to whom Cain goes when he is lost and alone. The Other people who develop without original sin or any of the issues that Yahweh's people have to deal with.
And that's in the first few chapters.

There are many. I could write a book about this. It is amusing to see "True Believers' glibly trying to deny that any contradictions exist or explain them in an overly-contived manner. How about one Bible verse saying Judas died by hanging, whike another says he died by falling. He did not die twice. A verse says Yahweh (Moses' god) inspired David's census, but another verse said the Devil did it. How can both God and Satan do one thing? I can explain how this happened. The first account was written before the Satan was invented. He was copied from Ahriman in Persian Zoroastrianism. In early Bible verses, God sends both good and evil upon humans.Moses said it is fine to divorce and remarry, but 1400 years later, Jesus said that is a sin.

There are so many I don't know where to begin, how about just the ones in Genesis? There are two accounts of creation in there, in one plants are created before man but afterwards in the other.

God promises never to smite mankind after the flood, but a couple of pages later hes raining fire and brimstone down on Sodom and Gamorrah.

Do a search on biblical contradictions there are thousands. Most fundamentalists on here say flatly that there are none - if you think you are you're sinful and need to pray more.

There are contradictions, but most of them are numerical contradictions and have been written off as copyist errors. As for the others, there are explanations for them, some of the explanations are more logical than others. Also, a quick search on biblical contradictions or something similar to that will let you find most of them.

And Easy one is

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Compare to

Luke 17:20 - 21 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Galations 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jesus is the 'son of God' in the New Testament but if you read his own quotes he always calls himself 'son of man' or 'son of Adam' and you also have Genesis Chapter 6's openning which is ignored when most churches tell the Noah story, with the Sons of God coming down and mixing with the daughters of man, guess Jesus was getting lucky.
