You have a condition called Pica, which is the urge to eat nonfood items; it's common in children and pregnant women, due to mineral deficiencies. You can try taking a daily multivitamin but the best thing to do is see a doctor to find out which minerals you're most deficient in.

There is actually a medical condition where people want to eat and crave non-food items. I can't recall the name of it, but the info is out there. If you do a search, I'm sure you will find the info you need, it might just be what you are looking for.
You might possibly have a vitamin deficiency.
Nothing is necessarily wrong with you, just not balanced somehow.
I hope you find the root of your problem! :)

Edit: I found it, the condition is commonly referred to as pica. I would see a doctor if you think that this describes your situation.

Lack of certain chemicals and essential minerals in your system can trick your brain into craving non food items like clay, wood, leather, and yes, even mud. Occasionally folks will get a craving for metals and such as well. All I can say is, your body is lacking something it thinks it needs and it's telling you in the only way it knows how. Change your diet to include healthier foods and if this craving continues see your doctor.

Do you have an eating disorder? You may be missing some minerals. Or maybe you were an earthworm in a previous life.

You must have a biologically-based mud deficiency.
