Have you tried antibiotic therapy? Acne is caused by the staph bacteria so it often needs antibiotic therapy to get it under control. Also since you are 27 you need to remember that your skin care should be changing to adult products and not use teen products on your skin. See your doc and try some long term antibiotic therapy to help get the bacteria under control.

If you do a Q&A acne search on Answers you will find many prescription, over the counter products & home remedies that people found did not work or made it worse. A main cause of our skin disorders is harsh chemicals, irritants and other ingredients in these products. Then we use more products containing equally harmful ingredients to try to fix it! Avoid medicated scrubs - they don't work and sometimes worsen condition
This is tried and tested, NATURAL, safe and low cost, effective way to rid yourself elf PERMANENTLY of the problem. It's an answer that I gave a short time ago and Asker responded that treatment was working after a few days(see my profile - BEST ANSWER )
Wash face using only mild natural ingredients cleaner.
Using an organic oil, or any natural oil - coconut and olive oil are good - massage face with it using quite a strong, vigorous motion - that part is important for treatment to work - once a day (best at night as will make face flushed). You will find you can make it more vigorous as you progress. Skin is always renewing, the vigorous massaging invigorates skin, clears blocked pores and hastens a spot and scar free new skin to emerge overtime. Initially, the skin has to adjust and if soreness or other reactions happen - the skin might expel poisons that need to be expelled - then stop and resume when you can. You have to find the pace that works for you - it's different for every person. Stick with it & in a week or so you will see an improvement and overtime you will have see a remarkable change. It completely & permanently healed all of my many skin disorders and I have had a completely spot and scar, blemish free, healthy skin for many years . You will not need any other treatment ever again.and you will find that you don't need to moisterize or use any other products..Only unhealthy skins need those.
Also if you have pimple scars use contents of Vitamin E CAPSULES - apply directly to scars. I know for a fact that when someone has face surgery or a face lift doctors tell patients to do precisely this to hasten healing and minimize scarring.

Don't feel bad I am in late 30's and have always had skin problems. I was told by a friend to use baking soda as a facial wash, I tried it mixing it w/ my normal facial wash and I must say my face has been clear for months now! if I do get a pimple it only lasts maybe 1/2 the time and doesn't get as big. Give a try, make sure your not over drying your face, that will make the acne worse. Also make sure you moisturize w/ a non oil base same w/ makeup, water base only.
Hope this helps it worked for me, and its cheap too!!

I used prescription and all that stuff too... then I found the off brand formula of St. Ives Apricot medicated scrub and have been using it 2x a day, plus cetaphil lotion (I know, it seems silly to put lotion on your face when you are breaking out, however I read in Shape that you can actually have worse breakouts if you do not moisturize your face regularly) 1x a day, usually at night. This plus the benzoil peroxide cream on the affected areas has done a pretty good job of keeping my skin clear, minus any monthly hormonal changes (which normally only last about a week). My sister who has had BAD acne starting trying this and it worked for her too. So it's:
*St. Ives Medicated Apricot scrub
*Cetaphil lotion
*Benzoil Peroxide cream (10%) on the affected areas
Also try to drink LOTS of water. Water has a cleansing affect on your body and will get rid of any impurities that might be causing the skin to break out in the first place.

Are you overweight , do you have excess hair ??
Im asking you because these signs are associated with stubborn acne , in which case you might need HORMONAL treatment .
TO MLGABLE : of course she used antibiotic therapy , it's a common treatment and since she has a chronic problem I bet she has been prescribed antibiotics many times !!

Try using a mild antibacterial soap, like Safeguard. It will kill the bacteria that causes acne. Sometimes, though, it's just something that you have to grow "out" of. My bother had it really bad as a teen, but I never really had it too bad.

Go to your dermatologist and request he put you on Accutane. It is a medication that is only taken in severe cases. It has a lot of horrible side effects but after about 6 months it is just about gone w/ the exception of one here or there.

i am 24 and just last year i started breaking out like crazy with big pimples on my forhead and my cheeks. i went to see a dermotalogist and he gave me antibotics and a face wash with bonoxile in it and a cream to put on my face at night. i have cleared out in just 2 months. he wants me to keep using it until my scars go away. He also wants me to avoid using moisturizers for now. I highly recommend you see a dermotologist. It worked for me.
