Each 75ml bottle of wine, needs about 2.78 pounds of grapes. So using that calculation, 3.70 pounds (approx 1¾ kilo) for 1litre.

Simple question, not a simple answer.

Depends how big or small the grapes are - the smaller the grapes then the higher the ratio of skins to juice, similarly the same weight of thick skinned grapes will produce less than thin skinned grapes.

But I reckon a rough average of 1 kg per litre would be right.

the others are probably right. but i use a canadian wine kit which uses the authentic grape from the country of origin, at the the moment i've an italian barolo just about ready. which is yummy. don't know how it campares price wise. but it's 40 pounds for a 5 gallon kit.

I use 4 KG to make 5 bottles.

Thats about 1KG per litre.
