Steak and shrimp. Whatever you make, I'm sure he will love it, just make sure you do it with love.

Oh start out with some baguette and room temp butter drizzled with extra virgin olive oil on top and a tad of sal de mer have some fresh oyster on a half shell (UMM) I find that men really love lamb. So I would make rack of lamb because it's super easy and very impressive and it doesn't taste as gamey as it used to taste (doesn't hurt that most kids like lamb too). Perhaps some mashed potato or a gratin of some kind and a great veg to go along side maybe a grilled radicchio or a warm goat cheese salad. A glass of champange and sparkling cider for the kids. Dessert pots du creme.
Good Luck.

You want to cook something good enough but simple enough to not take too much of your time....
I personally think a good Italian meal with a nice Wine is sexy...

You can buy an Italian Mix salad add tomomatos and chunks of mozarrella cheese <-this will give it that restaurant feel... then use a nice balsamic dressing.
My fave pasta for special occasions.... Pan fry shrimp with garlic and olive oil for a few minutes until it's cooked. Then add asparagus, mushrooms, and fresh garlic. Then instead of wasting time making your own sauce, add a good quality white sauce to the pan with the veggies and shrimp. Cook on low so that the shrimps don't overcook.
Be making a goo penne pasta. When it's done. Add it to the shrimp veggie sauce mix. Mix it us. Turn off the heat and let it set.
You can make garlic roles on the side...
Definitely a good bottle of Pinot Grigio.

For dessert, make something ahead of time... make on of those carmel brownies that you could nuke before serving. Top it with ice cream and drizzle with caramel. Maybe irish cream????

And have a great nite ;)

Start out with a nice garden salad - something simple and light. Perhaps a little warm sour dough bread and butter.

Followed by slow cooked Swiss Steak and baked potato.

Everything can be prepared in advance and tossed in the over for a little bit. Microwave the potatoes until they are almost cooked then finish them off in the oven wrapped in foil.

Grill a steak like a nice T-bone or a fillet. Make twice baked potatoes and a nice garden salad on the side.
Stay away from pasta.

Reservations.

Dinner at home is never very romantic since you spend half the day in the kitchen preparing, then you have to clean up after.

Have a nice quiet kid-free dinner at a restaurant, then come home for....dessert!

how bout beef bourgignon. its my mans fave and i actually cooked it for him last night cos weve been 2gether 6 years. just chuck enough stewing steak for two with some sliced carrots button mushrooms and sliced onion with a crushed clove of garlic in a casserolr dish. cover with 3/4 bottle red wine and stick in the oven on a low heat and forget about it a few hours. it will smell amazing while its cooking. about half hour before serving stir in some gravy granules. i usually serve it in a giant yorkshire with homemade roasters. not so dainty but we love it.

Well, I personally would go with something simple, like a couple of steaks, but that's just me. Pasta might be good, and for dessert, you could make some heart-shaped cupcakes!

Starter: smoked salmon and onions
~layer the bottom of a dish with thinnly shreaded onions and layer lots of smoked salmon on top. Pour balsamic dressing on top and garnish wih capers.

Meal: Lamb chops with asparagas

Poke holes in four meaty lamp chops and season it with black pepper, parsley, cumin. Place in a bag and pour 2 cups of red wine on top. Place to the side. (Best if done the night before)

Cut the very end of the aspara off and steam them or boil them for 10 minutes. Cool them by place them in cold water for a few minutes. air dry them. Take uncut slices of bacon and wrap them around each asapa. pan fry them in a little bit of olive oil on low heat.

Add olive oil to a large pan and slowly heat it.Add chops. Toss the lamb chops around to have it cooked on each side evenly. Meat will be slightly red b/c of the red wine.

Please serve with rice, toasted sourdough bread or french bread.

Dessert: Slice strawberries, black berries and blue berries and put them in an oven safe container. Pour champaign to cover the fruit. Put them in the oven for 5-10minutes or until fruit becomes warm. They will begin to soak up the flavor of the champaign. Scoop out the berries and pour them over scoops of vanilla ice cream, cream ice cream or eat alone with whipping cream.
Enjoy!

well, if you really want to make him happy, you could plan everything for the meal except for the main meat. just buy a couple of really nice steaks and have him grill them for you. he'll love the steaks and enjoy participating in prepping dinner.

what about fettucine alfredo, a mixed greens salad with balsamic vinagrette, and for dessert chocolate fondue with chunks of pound cake, strawberries, mango, and banana. serve this with a nice pinot gris or gewertzdaminor (not sure about the spelling there.)
