My hands have hurt for two years post accident with neck injury. Duh, i can't get any doctors to say that my hand pain is coming from my neck. They say CTS but my thumbs and forefinger are fine, perfectly fine. Here are the symptoms: Before I started taking Lyrcia for nerve pain (hello?), the pain in my hands, mainly my pinkies and ring finger hurt so bad that I lost my job as a legal secretary. Yes, I may have CTS, but it's not the median nerve as much as something else. MY hands are swollen, larger than they should be, completely numb on the top of my hands and down the side of my hand along the pinkie and down to the wrist. What is it?

I've read your answers, the first three or four- the last doc was a neuro and she said I needed to see a neurosurgeon asap for depression surgery because my C5-6 are pressing into my spinal cord but that has nothing to do with my hands, I beg to differ, she gave me a nerve study and said my ulnar is fine and i have severe cts, okay and? my hands are doing something complete different that CTS> still searching...can't find a thing on swelling hands, tight knuckles and cramping pinkies...

If I were you I would try to find a doctor specializing in Neurology and then you will more than likely get a logical explanation and or diagnosis.

Just as CTS is medial nerve compression, you can also have ulnar nerve compression syndrome. With swelling, it makes it sound more like nerve and vessal compression through the wrist that may also be restricting blood flow. Treatment is unfortunately similar to CTS and if that is not working for you, you may have to question a surgical approach.

As for the neck injury, the hand where you describe the pain is innervated by C7 and C8. These are the nerves that stem off the last neck vertebre. If you bend your neck down, the bone that sticks out at the angle if is your 7th vertebre. The hand nerve is just above and just below that. If that is were you were injured then it could be a possibility.

It does sound like nerve involvement, and there is compression in your hands if they are swelling, it could be consistent with CTS but if your gut tells you it's something else, you should prob see a neurologist.
