My bully never had a problem with stairs, but there are lots of times she won't step down lower steps (jump off the bed, out of the car, etc). She is very suspicious of surfaces she can't feel. Especially if the surface is dark or cluttered. She is 8 now, but it took me years to get her to walk on a boatdock ramp with me to my sister's boat because it is a moving surface. My guess is your dog could walk UP the stairs just fine, am I right? So if that is correct, then it is more of a mental thing than a development issue. Plus, if your pup is like my bully, it prolly prefers you carrying him/her than working the stairs manually. :)

My bulldog was about 3 months old before he could do it at all, and probably 4 months before he reliably did it himself. Try putting him on the first or second stair from the top, then go to the bottom and call him. Be careful, because he will probably stumble for awhile.
But don't worry. If he's learned climbing up the stairs, he'll eventually get the hang of down. Down is a LOT easier.

Mine goes up like it's nothing, but won't come down. He just sits at the top and barks until we carry him down! Don't rush him/her, the last thing you want is a puppy falling down the stairs. My pug (built much like a bulldog) took over 6 months to come down the stairs. I'd rather them take their time than try to fast and fall.

If you really want him to come down, I tried placing them on the third or fourth step from the bottom and coaxing them down. It seems like it's less intimitating than an entire flight of stairs. But again, let them take their time and they'll be flying up and down liek its nothing in no time!

Mine finally got the hang of it at 3 months, but i had to put a treat on each and evey step for a week in order for her to do it herself. They are stubborn, it's not that they can't, they just know it's nicer to be carried down LOL!

about 3 - 4 months it just depends when they feel they can do it, dogs have there own senses, just let him or her take his time and he will eventually fall a couple times, then get the hang of it

yeah - we had to use treats, too. pretty much once we stopped carrying them, they learned how to do it!
