Don't get involved with people who are known to be jerks...give people a chance to do the right thing--mostly they will. You'll never be able to protect yourself 100% from getting hurt by a liar or cheater, but that's the great thing about opening yourself up to others-you know you can get hurt, but you trust them anyway, give yourself up to them anyway, and when the person is worthy of you, the benefits are unbelievable!
I am not saying be a fool--if someone shows themselves to be unworthy of your trust-that's the end. You don't get a second chance to hurt me. Sorry.

I would see how the person talks, thru eye contacts etc. it isn't easy to trust anybody these days.
