Well I'm already at the legal age of getting a tattoo. ( I'm 18 years old.) And I want to get a tattoo of a cross on my right wrist. I've never had a tatoo before, and I want to get a tattoo to celebrate me turning 18, as my birthday gift to myself. And I was wondering should a first-timer (like me) get a tattoo on my wrist or not? I already know what I want. I want a tattoo of a cross on my right wrist, and I was just wondering what you all think. I've already done all the researching and whatnot on tattoo's, so I want to know what you think (the ones with tattoos) about a first timer getting a tattoo on the wrist. Thanks! :)

I'm sure your already aware that its a permanent thing so i wont go ahead & try to convince you to get a fake one or lecture you on the permanency of a tatt.
The wrist is a delicate area as the blood vessles are more promanent & there is little or no fat deposits around the area. I have mine on my shoulder & to tell the truth it didnt hurt at all. My brother has a cross on his wrist , its coloured red & is still a great piece of art even after 12 years & he hasnt has it touched up once. In saying that though, you really do need to consider things like, what career will you have, will you be waiting tables where your wrist will be visible? Only reason I say this is because some employers are rather "old school" & wont employ someone who has visible tatts if the line of work has a lot of customer service involved.
I would say go for it hun, if its what you want then get it! You clearly arnt doing this on impulse as your researching so best of luck to you ;o)
If you are really concerned about anything at all, your best bet would be to visit the tattooist your thinking of using, he/she would know all your queries & ease your mind....or change it HAHAHA. Go for it babe :o)

i would NOT suggest getting a wrist tattoo as a first. there have been a lot of people on here who have gotten their first tattoo and then decided that they really don't like tattoos on themselves or wish they had put their tattoos in a more hidden place. i think wrist tattoos can be really pretty but it has to be the right thing and it has to be something that you are totally committed to. i know you say you know what you want but when i was 18 i thought i knew, and now i have had those tattoos covered up with something else.
AND you don't relize how weird it will be to look down and have something permanent there! i got my feet tattooed last year and sometimes i look down and am surprised to see tattooed feet. if you really really think you want one there maybe you should get a temporary tattoo and wear it there for a week or two and see how you'll feel about it afterward. good luck!

My monitor is a little on the dark side but if your avatar is close to your actual skin tone, you might have a hard time getting a tattoo to stand out. I've been in the tattoo business for 20 years and I've tattooed people from the Cayman Islands and they are super dark skinned. It can be done but it's tough to see it.
As for getting the tattoo on your wrist, it's up to you. the wrist is just as good of a place than anywhere else but it's going to hurt a little more than other places. You might want to re-think the placement to your shoulder. It's the second least painful places and one of the most easiest to hide if you need to.

I remember at the age of 16, on my birthday, my mother took me to get my first tattoo and I was so excited. I also did all my research and looked for tattoos that would symbolize something knowing it would stay for me forever. I ended up getting a angel carrying the necklace that my mother had gotten me stating "Tammy's Angel" I placed it on my lower leg. It was quite big to start off with however I took it like a man. Ive heard that the wrist doesn't hurt that bad. I think it just all depends on how well you handle pain. Everyone is different! I am now 20 and have 10 tattoos! they are addictive! LOL !Good Luck

My only advice is to make sure it is something you want to keep FOREVER. My first tattoo was at age 40 and it was on my ankle. I have over 20 now and do NOT regret any of them. The wrist is a fine place to get a tattoo first or otherwise. Make sure you go to a reputable shop. If they do NOT let you watch them set up then you do NOT want to get a tattoo by them. Make sure they are clean and use NEW needles and ink cups. If you are NOT careful you will get more than the tattoo.

My first tatoo is hidden very well. My second one is on the small of my back and the third one is on the back of my neck, covered by my hair. I wish I had one that I could see!! I say the wrist is a really cool place. You can cover it with a watch or bracelet if you need to in the future. Have fun! Happy Birthday!

I would think twice about getting a visible tattoo. It can be a job deterrent. I had to remove a nose piercing for that reason. Thankfully, I could hide the foot and ankle tattoo's. Don't you just hate having to conform to society? Good luck !

Try a temporary tatoo on the wrist for a couple of month and see how you like it. Just tell everyone that it's a permanent. This way you can 'sample' it without having to worry that it'll be permanent or whatnot.

I think that if that's what you want and if you want it on your wrist go for it.
Pain should never be a deciding factor whether or not your get a tattoo and usually its never as bad as you think its going to be. You're probably hyping yourself up to expect the worst and the main thing is to relax.

I have a tattoo on my wrist and its pretty painful. Its nothing you cant live through so I say go for it. The only thing is when they tattoo your wrist they hit nerves and your fingers spaz out, its crazy stuff
