There doesn't HAVE to be a God. What there HAS to be is the freedom to express one's beliefs without interference from others who have different beliefs.
This includes not being told that you're going to burn in hell for being a sinner, being accosted in the street by people trying to "save your soul", having idiots knocking on your door so they can ram their mumbo jumbo down your throat etc etc.

You are asking the wrong questions, "Why or why not?" It is not a choice for us to make. If we believe there is God, if we don't believe then there is no God. That is not how it works. God is God. God was God yesterday, he is God today, and he will be God tommarow. Here you are asking a group of people, most of which are worldly morrons who know next to nothing about anything, why they think there should be a God. When these idiots die and stand before God and say, "I'd didn't think you were real," do you think God is going to say, "Okay, go to heaven, your innocent because you didn't think I was real?" It makes no difference to God what you or I think. We can think anything we want to and it won't save us from hell.
There is no good reason not to believe in God. There is evidence of God all around you. The complexity of the universe demands a creator. It didn't just make itself. If you see a book, there had to be an author. If you see a watch, there had to be a watch maker. If you see a tall building, there had to be a designer. If you see a creation, there has to be a creator.
Depending on what wacky church you go to, you may not believe. There are a lot of churches out there, and most of them won't help you get to heaven, and the real true God of the Bible. God said, "All men are created equally." Not all Gods.
So who is God? What Bible is the perfect preserved word of God? And, which churches preach Gods word?
God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirt. 1 John 5:7-"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one." John 1:1-"In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:14-"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. King James is the real Bible. Not all Bibles are the same. Other versions change things, and leave things out. Things that are not the same are different. If you want to know who God is, you need to have his true word, the King James Bible.
Gods word is preached in Independent, Fundemental, Baptist Churches. Bible Churches that are King James are usually good. Some Penticostal Churches preach Gods true word, but they do things that are not nessessary like think that they are speaking in tongues. Penticostals tend to be very emotion driven.
Stick with the Baptist. They preach the Bible right. Or, Bible Churches.
Jesus said, "Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God." He didn't say except a man speak in tongues, be baptisted, worship Marie, allah, buddha, or anything else. Jesus said, "Ye must be born again." Jesus said, "I am the truth, the way, and the life. No man cometh to the Father except by me." Jesus said, "He who believeth is not condemned, but he who believeth not, is condemned already. Because he hath not believed on the name of the only Son of God."
So if you don't not believe, you are condemned to hell already. Remember, straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth to life, but broad is way and wide is the gate that leadeth to corruption. Since straight is the gate and narrow is the way, few there be that go in there at.
So, as you can see it matters not what any man thinks. If you do not trust the Lord Jesus Christ, you will go to hell and suffer eturnal torment. If you do not believe you are condemned already.

Because people need something to believe in. I believe that if you live you life right and be a good person that is all that is necessary. I have read the Bible and studied many different religions so that I could make an informed decision and I came to the conclusion that this is not something that I believe. I found too many discrepencies in the Bible and the idea of a heaven and hell is ridiculous to me, also the fact that there are so many different religions and they all think theirs is the correct belief and the others are all wrong. However I think everyone should study religion and make an informed decision. I think alot of people believe in god out of fear, that is not how I want to live my life. Others go to church to put on a front but really are not very good people.

There does not have to be a god because there is no need for a god. The universe functions quite satisfactorily under its own steam, its life lives and dies, and we will be blown to oblivion in due course.
There was a need for a god once when the questions we need answering about the universe and our place in it could not be answered without one. That is why there have always been thousands of gods, and why the Christian gods aren't in very close agreement with each other, because the needs of those who created him are so varied. Now, some maintain the concept that worked for the ancients even though it has no further function to fulfil. The idea that there might be something watching over them presumably provides some kind of security. But there is no need for god, for security or otherwise. Certainly not for creation or moral purpose.

So Here is a story that describes my sentiment:
A little boy is flying his kite on the beach on a windy day. The kite gets higher and higher in the breeze until it is no longer visible from the ground. A man walks by the boy holding his kite string and looking into the sky he says, "what are you doing?"
The boy replies, "I am flying my kite."
"But you can't see it, it's too far away. How do you even know it's there?"
Looking straight at the man, the boy quite simply replies; "I can feel the pull."
That's the way feel about God's presence. I feel the pull of something greater that places us all together, in the paths of one another daily. I understand that this may sound like the ranting of a crazy person. But I think it would be more crazy to deny the forces that affect our lives and our subconscious. Everyone has the opportunity to explore that 'pull' that they feel.

What do you mean by solid proof?
God is solid beyond all human concept about solidity.
The Holy Books are solid than all other books before the test of time and of human mind.
The Messengers of God withstand all the royal powers of the Nimrods, Pharaohs, Ceasars, Sultans, Despots...

Man personified God in order to keep humans in line. Life, I imagine, would be very different without the promise of an afterlife. Free will would be employed more often than not. Life would be terribly unpleasant as man would control man by force in order to make up for his lacking in self control.
On the other hand, I don't think there is a "guy" in "heaven" named "god" that oversees our lives, to varying degrees of interaction. I do, however, think that it's unlikely that humankind is accidental, so obviously I struggle with this!

There is a point of origen for everything. The questions is : Was that original cause conscious or inert? You exist because your mother and father were conscious. What about if one, either your mother or your father were dead?, all the chemical ingredient to produce life are present, but the main ingredient is not there: CONSCIOUSNESS.
So NO God, no existence for anything.

There is no evidence that there is a God. The only thing that makes me think there might be one is that because there is matter in the universe and matter cannot be created by any known scientific method, then matter must have always existed without any creation or it must have at one point been created by a supernatural event. Thinking that something always existed without any point of creation is even harder for me to believe that it is for me to believe in a God. I certainly don't believe in any of the organized religions. They all pretend to know something that nobody really knows.

It's not a question of should or shouldn't. It's a question of is or is not. God is either there or not.
If you mean an old guy with a beard in the heavens, never met the guy or seen anything he's autographed. Or anyone who has. Delusions of granduer do not count.
To me, the universe is "god". As a whole and part. And we're all part of it and it. Right here, right now. Nowhere to run to nowhere to hide.
