Poker is like any other game, to get better you need to practice, study and practice some more. Study is very important. Poker is deceptively easy to learn, but takes years to master.

Check out some good poker books and read them. Play online to practice. Use play money options and see how big you can build your bank roll. Although play money is not like real money, the expensive play money tournaments are taken pretty seriously. If you play on a site like poker stars they have play money tournaments (sit and go) that cost over $80,000 to enter. Given that everyone starts off with just $1,000 in play money at least some of the players must know what they are doing. Once you can get your play money bank roll that high you are certainly good enough to beat low stakes real money games.

Consider too joining a local poker league if there is one. There are lots of pub poker leagues out there these days. They offer a chance to play 'real life' poker to practice that aspect too. Once you get good you should be able to win some nice prizes from them.

There is really no short cut to this. It will take a couple of years of hard work to become a good player. But it is worth it.

Yes I love poker I will only play hold' em though.

I would know your hands so you only look once and all passable hands. When the flop, turn, river, come up I would look for all passable hands the other players might have as well and see if it could beat out your hand so if you have a pair K♥ K♣ and they have 6♣ 7♣ straight flush

3♣ 9♥ 4♣ 5♣ A♥

You only have a pair but u can see from the flop and the turn they could make a passable flush or straight flush that will beat out your hand. Also try and figure out body language to see if they are bluffing. Remember what they did with past hands. Do they bluff a lot?, Do they bluff ever second hand?, Are they bluffing at all?. What hands are they using when they call or raise?.

Just some thing too look for when playing there is a lot more to figure out in poker if you want to become real good at it but I said some basics to start out with. Practices then go from there.

I would get with friends and get some chips play and practice if you want to go pro (Good) start on the computer move to friends then get into tournaments (local) then when you get real good make your way up there.

Hope it helped

Hey Random:

It's not easy to make a living at playing poker, however there is really good money to be made if you are good enough. One of the keys to increasing your bankroll is playing at the right times online. During the daytime hours there are alot of sharks playing poker who are attempting to make a living doing this. These folks are content to make a couple hundred dollars aday consistantly so they are playing in the lower level tournaments or at the smaller blind tables. This is where they will find the less experienced players and believe me they prey on them! If you are really interested in improving your play and increasing the return on your poker investment I would suggest that you play in the evenings. There are alot more players online at these peak hours so chances are you will be playing against less experienced players. Also make sure you play in the low limit tables or tournaments until you increase your bankroll and skill level. Poker room offers an online tutorial which could help with understanding the fundamentals of the game such as importance of table position, understanding hand odds and learning how to read your opponents. I'm not sure if you are a US player but unfortunately poker room doesn't accept US players however you can view their tutorial. If you are a US player I would say that some of the best action can be found at absolute poker. An important factor to remember is that playing poker for free isn't even close to playing poker with real money. So the only true measure of your skill will be real money play and I would reinerate that you begin in very low level tables or tournaments. I wish you luck and hope this helped.

The problem here is that you are playing a low stakes friendly game of poker, your friends are on the other hand are playing bingo. The kind of game you describe can be tough to beat because it seems like you get called with any kind of junk hand, it doesn't matter how much you bet or how bad the pot odds are, your friends still call and hit on the river, which convinces them that their 'strategy' is great and they can play just like the pros on TV. With these kind of players you have to tighten up, when you get into a pot you need an excellent hand. Keep the pots small if you are drawing, when you hit, don't bother to disguise your hand, over bet it like you are bluffing. Be very careful about slow playing monster hands. AA is not a great hand against four other players. You want to go heads up with it. The more players in the hand, the greater the odds of a suck out. Just to keep your friends guessing, I do like the random bluff raises you do from time to time, that's a good idea too. Just be careful if you get more than one caller. If they call a continuation bet and you have completely missed the flop, it's probably not a good sign. Try and make your random bluffs a little less random, look for weakness and try to exploit it. Beware of fake weakness.

Here are the two best ways to improve at poker:

1)Experience
The more you play the more you learn. Poker is all about recognizing situations over and over again. If you have a lot of experience you are able to recognize what's going on in the hand and make the correct play.

2) Learn from someone better than you
The fastest way to improve your game is to learn from someone who already has tons of experience. Basically they are shortening the amount of time you need to become a winner as fast as possible. They already put in the hours and can show you what you need to do to win. My roommates and I have been playing for years, and all make a living from the game. We started http://www.pokerdynasty.net/ because we wanted to share our skills with others. On our site you can watch us play and learn from what we do. This is definitely the fastest way to improve your game.

Before you do any of the things suggested above, you should read, read, read, and read some more. It helps to practice, but you should practice right. If you read some books by the pros, then you will know the correct way to play and you will know when you make a mistake. So your practice will help you more.

Some good books to read:

Doyle Brunson's Supersystem.
Anything by David Skylanski (he has many books)
Mike Caro's Pro Poker Tells
Harrington on Hold 'em

There are many more, but those will get you started.

well after you learned the rules you should get a feel for the game. i think you can accomplish that only by playing a lot of times.
then i think you want to become somewhat unpredictable, so the people you play with don't know what your doing even though they think they know. and well i think the most important thing is that you have to see what your oponent is up to very quickly
