Have you ever wondered what companies
send you when they claim you can erase
bad credit overnight? How about those
ads that say you can get any major
credit
card without a deposit or a credit
check?
Ads abound almost everywhere
these days (online and off) selling
books, systems and secrets to
help you fix your credit. Many
of these programs have claims
which read like the covers of
supermarket tabloids:
"In 3hrs my credit score jumped
from 580 to 676!"...
"Erase bad credit and smash your
debts with just 2 Magic Letters!".
Are these types of claims ALWAYS
too good to be true? The answer is
"Yes and... no".
While many people would love for
you to believe the only thing that
can fix bad credit is time; in
reality... nothing could be further
from the truth. The fact is, time
is only one factor which can fix
a credit report, but it's a far cry
from being the only factor. How
can I back this up? Easy.
Under a consumer protection law
known as the Fair Credit Reporting
Act (a.k.a. the FCRA) the only
negative information which can
remain on your credit report is
not what is accurate... but what
can be proved as accurate under
the FCRA. What's this mean
to you?
It means any negative item on
your credit report can only remain
there if it is accurate and CAN
BE PROVED AS SUCH under the
guidelines of the FCRA. This
undisputable fact presents
consumers with both good
news and bad news.
The good news is that through
the FCRA your credit score can
most likely be improved dramatically
in a very short period of time with
only a modest amount of effort on
your part.
The bad news is that while the
actual "work" will take very little
of your time, it is vital that you
have good information on "how"
to go about it. This is the bad
news; 9 out of 10 courses on
restoring your credit will do nothing
more than lead you into snake
pits because they will provide
you with what the industry refers
to as "Boiler Plate" dispute letters.
These are nothing more than form
letters and... quite frankly (more
bad news) the Credit Bureaus and
Creditors will laugh at you if you
try to use them.
While I agree with the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) that "Anything a
Credit Repair Clinic can do for you
legally, you can do for yourself at
little or not cost"... the key element
you need for success is the latest
inside techniques and procedures
to get the results you want. This
involves strategies such as "Proof
of Contract", "Constructive Notice",
"Challenge of Procedure" or
"Restrictive Endorsement" and many
others.
All these terms may "sound" impressive
but they are really quite simple. In
the
end, it is nothing more than a method
of communication which exercises your
consumer protection rights, gets the
results you want and raises your credit
score. Even more impressive, once you
learn how simple it can be by doing it
for
yourself, you will find there is a
fortune
to be made doing it for others! Either
way, it all starts by requesting a free
copy of your credit report here:

You A Fortune?"

Credit can only be fixed with time. It takes 7 years for flags to drop off of your credit report. Any "write-off" debt (this is debt that your creditor wrote off as uncollectable) will never come off thus making you screwed.
A "credit doctor" could give you common sense advise such as pay your bills on time. If you want to try to eliminate the "write-off" scenario, contact the creditor and try to make an arrangement where they will remove the "write-off" flag in return for debt payment. The "credit doctor" would advise you very seriously to pay that debt once an arrangement is make else you will be permanently screwed. If you are in the process of building credit or rebuilding credit, get a credit card and charge about $20 a month. Then when the bill comes, pay it immediately. This will should creditors that you are being responsible. The amount doesn't have to be much. If you fail to pay, you will be screwed.
Credit is about discipline, trust, responsibility and reliabilty. Imagine if someone lied to you (perhspa several times), how much would it take for that person to regain your trust.
To answer your question, a "credit doctor" can't fix your credit. Only you can do it.

I wouldn't say that they are scamming, they are doing what you can do yourself. You have to remember that what ever information is in your credit is going to be there "unless" it is in there incorrectly. To verify, get a current copy of your 3 major credit reports, check the information and make sure all is correct, if not dispute it or get a lawyer to help you. Information in the credit report will normally be there for 7 years (from the date of the last activity, I believe; or 11 years for bankruptcy).
If they offer to change you Social Security Number, you are doing something illegal; it is also impossible to get a new SSN, there are very few reason that the Social Security Administration will give you a new number. TIN numbers are also illegal to start another credit report, they are to be used for official government reasons. Any offers like this, turn around and run.
If you have credit problems, contact your creditors yourself and try to get a deal or have a lawyer or a non-profit consumer credit agency work with you. Pay your Bills!
(I'm not an expert in this mater, just giving my two cents, find someone that can help like a lawyer or credit agency, or even one of the credit bureaus to answer your questions or to guide you)

No, especially if they are charging high fees to do it. They basically do what you can do by yourself to clean up your credit rating. They start by getting a copy of your credit report and score, and then writing letters continually demanding that old accounts and comments be taken off your records, and add comments to the ones you dispute.
Save yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars and do it yourself.
Your local public library or bookstore has books on how to do this with even sample letters in them. You will feel more in control of your finances also by doing it yourself.

This company isn't a credit doctor but they did work for me. I have been with them for about a year now. They got my credit report cleaned up in about six months and a half. Since then they have been monitoring my credit every 45 days to make sure that anything they removed stays removed. I love this company.

Yes they are for real...they are really trying to TAKE YOUR MONEY>
Sure they can HELP but the chances are that the fee that they charge you way out weights the benefits.....
They do have some value but not much.
From my understanding they call your creditors and work out payment arrangements with them.
YOU COULD DO THAT YOURSELF!
Think long and hard about turning your information over to them.
go to www.ripoffreport and read about some of the experiences from other people who had nightmares working with these companies
