I went to Hong Kong last September. I found it clean, vibrant and the people are very friendly. I knew nobody there and immediately fell in with people at pubs and other places that were interesting and approachable. It is certainly a place where East meets West and it's very multicultural. I thoroughly recommend the place. It's easier to get there than to leave because there is no place like it.

Just had a conversation with somebody who was also considering a move to HK.
As a young adult I think it's great; you're constantly on the move; work is competitive and always challenging.
The variety of food in HK is a big + point. From Korean to Thai and French to Tex Mex we have it all!
Housing is definitely a -. Our property market right now is definitely on the higher side and shows no sign of slowing down. Our property market can be compared to the likes of New York or London.
Expats tend to have it better off in HK with high paying jobs plus benefits like housing allowance and perhaps more.
Family wise; a friend of mine left HK a few years ago mainly due to our air pollution problem. That is definitely IMO our biggest downfall today.
You may find HK people to be on the ruder side; this I feel again is due to the lightning face pace of our/their lives. But you get used to it (so I hear ;) )
Making friends should be fairly easy; bars and clubs here usually sort all out.
Whatever you decide - good luck!

Hong Kong is very nice place for westerns, since you surly can survive in English, since Hong Kong was ruled by England more than 100 years. so, you can get used to live in Hong Kong easily. also, you can meet new people from all over the world as well.
you can always take a shot to see if you love Hong Kong or not. if it really doesn't work out for you, you can surly move back home anytime.

Hong Kong is an amazing city with a large variety of things to see, do, buy, eat etc. I assume you'll be on an expat package with appartment supplied? There are plenty of clubs, bars, cafes and other places to meet people. Where will you be working? Some parts of the city are super crowded like Causeway Bay and Mongkok but hop on the KCR up to New Territories, or on a boat to Lamma Island and you can escape the noise and crowds.
Enjoy and good luck!

It's a big metropolis that offer the some of the best of east meet west. It's down right heavenly for the rich and wealthy but it's survivable for average peasants too. It's busy and crowded, it's exciting and fun. The only weakness is in outdoor activities as land is precious and much more focus is given to developments than preservations.
Those don't mind poor air, humid heat, and cramped spaces generallly find it enjoyable in HK.

Hong Kong? Chinatown...? seriously though, no, they dont really have any cultural districts. HK does have a lot of cultures living there and they have their own hang outs in different areas like for Filipinos, British ex-pats, Indian people etc etc.
