My ex has been calling me lately (if you read my other questions, it isn't the guy I went to lunch with, it is another guy) our relationship ended on VERY bad terms. But I still have never loved anyone like I love him...he wants to see if we can work things out, and as much as I want to, I can't help but think that things will just be horrible again. Things used to be great between us, and I know we both want that back...I just don't know if we have crossed the line too far to be able to get back what we had. I am afraid that if I don't give this a try, I will spend the rest of my life wondering "What if..." and then I am afraid if I do, we will only end up hurting each other in the end. What should I do?

This one will be easy to understand.
First, there was a reason you both broke up. That was defined, so let's not forget that reason(s).
Second, a person can not change overnight. Many times, it takes month(s) or many years for a guy to change - usually something dramatic/traumatic has to happen to be the "wake up" call. So, in all likeliness, he probably hasn't changed.
I understand you may still love him for his good ways, but don't settle JUST for convenience. Meaning, lots of women stay in relationships they should get out of because they KNOW how to relate to the guy - even with his bad ways.
Be strong and start fresh - remember, you still have memories - good and BAD.
Call it a friendship first, and if he respects you enough, he can start slow and develop again.

Good luck!

i think you both need to prove to each other that you really want to be together and make the relationship work...maybe go all the way back and start dating again to see if you can rekindle that "greatness" it might work it might not but atleast you can go and say you had been given another chance and stop wondering what if ...
