I want to give you some advice. I have a chihuahua who was not spayed. One day she atrted bleeding out this brown stuff........turns out she had a disease called Pyometra. It's when the uterus fills up with pus and can be deadly. Well, we had to get her spayed right away or else she would've died. I higghly recommend that you have your lil babe spayed. It will save you from trouble in the future.

They usually go into heat at around 9 months, but if you are considering breeding her please wait until at least her second heat. A 9 month old pup is not done growing yet, and it can be very difficult for them to have a litter this early. It is really better to wait till their third or fourth heat. If you bred her at her first heat it would be like a teenage pregnancy, just because she goes into heat does not mean she should be bred that soon. I would also consider speaking with a vet. These small breeds will sometimes need c-sections to get the pups out, not all the time but it can happen. If you are going to breed speak with your vet and do a lot of research first. I am not telling you not to breed your dog, because that is your right, but please research. It will be so much better for both of you in the long run. You should also have a good deal of money put back in case something does go wrong. Good Luck to you and your pup.

Most dogs have their first heat cycle between the ages of six and nine months.

Do you and your dog a big favor and get her spayed before she goes into heat. Doing so drastically reduces the chances that she will have certain cancers, and she will not get pyometra. She will also be easier to live with; hormone fluctuations during heat cycles are not pleasant.

"The average female dog has her first cycle about six months of age. A few dogs start earlier and few dogs later, even as late as 14-months."

Hi Jebagomes!
The first female dog heat is manifested between the first 7 or 8 months. We can observe the vulva gets swollen and leaves traces of blood. Please look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/What_To_Expect_When_Your_Dog_Is_Expecting/
The female is in heat 2 times a year. It is important for the owner to keep control of the dates in their health book.

If you wasn't even thinking about chihuahua breeding...please spay your dog before she create their first unwanted litter.
Look articles: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Dog_Spay_Surgery/ - Dog Spay Surgery. Many veterinarians recommend spaying dogs at about six months of age, which is generally prior to a dog's first heat cycle. Sureed to have a discussion with your veterinarian about the "whens" and "whys" of spaying.

Talk to the breeder as the pups mom will give you a good indication of when she will go into heat. I hope you don't need this info for breeding purposes. Since it sounds like you don't know much about it, please leave it to the professionals and get your pup spayed before she ever goes into heat.
