Yesterday I drove over the mountail from Bergen to Oslo. A beautiful cenic drive that was made stressful occasionally.

The question is:
what makes a human being place his car with in 7 feet of another moving car that is moving beyond speed limit allready?
In traffic, specially on very icy roads, Ill pull over when I get a chance if I can see that another car wants to try his luck and drive faster.
My problem is that I get very stressed when someone cant stay a safe distance. I even go so far as to be insulted as if Im an idiot that cant drive and should just get out of the way!
Many times someone will put my life and others in danger just to see them turn off at the next road or drive. Sometimes Ill meet up with some one in the next town at a red light who blazed by some miles before....
I would like a responce from some of these asshole drivers and just get some ideas on how you can think?

I've got to believe that they don't like the idea of someone else controlling the speed that they want to drive at, regardless if its only a few miles per hour faster or even if it will make a difference in when they'll arrive to their destination due to turns, lights, signage, etc. It's even more amazing how upset those same individuals get when you suddenly need to slam on your brakes, particularly during rush hour traffic, causing them to swerve off onto the shoulder to avoid you!

I can't be bothered about issues in a country where my non-resident status eliminates ability to introduce change by a voting process. The problem is not the offending operators, which are everywhere, but rather the control measures to reduce their ilk. I favor the technology employed by Brit's. Put automated cameras where previous problems are more evident than elsewhere, like road intersections, and post the buggers their citation within 24 hours. Levy expensive fines of $500+.

A great question with some great answers. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I'd answer, but I just finished answering your other one which had nearly the same wording, and then discovered this.

So I gave some thumbs up and I'll leave it at that.

Oh -- and I liked the two girls who said they slow down. I do the same thing and I hope a *lot* of people do this to tailgaters. I believe one way to teach these jerks and lunatics new behavior is to give them exactly the opposite of what they want. Stiff fines are another way.

I'm one like you. I do know that aggressive drivers are also mean people.

One day I was driving 10 mph over the speed limit, with several cars in front of me. The pickup truck behind me was so close I could not see his headlights ... and I drive a low slung car, so you know I SHOULD have been able to see them. I let him know to back off. He did not. I slowed down. He stayed on my tail. I slowed down to the speed limit, but was unable to move into the slow lane due to traffic, to get out of his way. He was able to get over there, passed me on the right, then proceeded to jump in front of me AND slam on his brakes. Had I not been the type who automatically creates a big braking space between me and the other driver, I would have hit him. So I switched over to the other lane (there was now room). He sped up, jumped in front of me and slammed on his brakes. This went on for 5 miles of country highway, with me unable to leave the highway but being targeted by this jerk and no one to help. I wrote down his plate number but cell service was out ... what to do? All I know is that people like that, God will take care of when their turn comes ... and I hope God has a vengeful side to turn the screws ...

i know your pain, I drive in Connecticut! I'm a fast driver (like 80mph+ on highways and the speed limit is 55mph) there is no need to tailgate me. and i don't tailgate others, i would rather just grit my teeth and wait for an opening to pass then to tailgate. And if the tailgater just relaxs a minute i would get out of there way when i can.

i'm soooooo sick of it that now I just go slower to piss them off. the more they tailgate the slower I go!!!!!

Be careful if you are the type of person that likes to annoy an aggressive driver like slowing down. Where i'm from it is very common for people to end up full of bulletholes for practicing those methods. good luck to you.

People who do this are immature, plain and simple. I USED TO DO IT before I finally grew up.

It's funny how your whole attitude changes when you are mature. Now I'm one of those drivers who is never in a hurry and it makes OTHER people mad.

My mother tailgates drivers. It's really annoying when people do that.... it takes the fun out of driving.
